Good Morning/Evening! IT'S Friday ! [I bet Hillbilly} is already celebrating the weekend. lol
Hope everyone has a great day and weekend.

Has anyone here had to deal with rats? we have them and we have traps set out with poison [boy I hate having to do this] these traps are the kind that locks so pets and other animals can't get into them. My dh is getting the old-fashioned rat traps today the kind that snaps when they go for the food.
I just can't stand the thought of them getting into my birds feed. They are so brave they are coming into the backyard where 2 of my LF chickens hang out and the rats could care less.

Eek, rats... Nasty little buggers. Very smart. I used to breed fancy rats for the pet trade, one got out and killed my cockatiel...

From what I've seen online, they are very cautious and will avoid anything new, making them difficult to trap. Best way is to set up a trap that isn't primed, maybe even with bait, and let them figure out it's harmless. THEN prime it.

I think we have them here, although I've never seen one. I think that's what attacked my Sweetie last Spring. But haven't seen hide nor hair of anything similar since.

okay, we're going to use the old fashioned rat traps too put peanut butter on and see if we get a couple today.
Thanks for the info . I looked into the locked traps and I could see where they had nibbled the poison so hopefully, if we stay with it they are at least back down to normal. We live in the woods so we know they are a part of the eco system they are just out of control. And the snakes are going into hibernation so they won't be any help.
