Well, I'm trying not to cry. Actually, I think I'm too numb now to cry.

24 hours without power.

65+ eggs possibly dead.
Loss of power crossed my mind about midnight when we were having a lot of cloud to ground lightning. If ours goes out, I have two choices. The first is to run the incubator into town if the power is on at my business. The second is to run an extension cord from the bed of my truck to the inside and power the incubator off the built in invertor .

I don't have either option, unfortunately.

Closest town where I know someone (youngest daughter) is 45 minutes away, and she didn't have power either.

I'm going to look into getting some sort of battery back-up or something that can hook into my car.

That's unfortunate. I think a lot of the poor things just get disregarded too. Many people don't realize how poorly equipped domestic ducks are to survive on their own; they just think "a duck's a duck". I still have family members who act surprised when I tell them for the tenth time my ducks can't fly. Some of them just genuinely don't believe me.

In the months I spent scouring the 'Lost and Found pets' page I only saw a duck posted about once, but there were undoubtedly more out there. If nothing else I'm hoping the post I have planned will bring a bit more awareness to the issue.
Well, here in rural HillBilly land it is even more unfortunate than in more urban areas: Poultry and lifestock are more or less treated like things. Things you own and use and sometimes simply "throw away"…
:th

How far into the incubation process where they? - And what kind of eggs?
Getting too cold in the early stages of the incubation process is very survivable (look up the »baluties« here on the site) and developing ducklings are hardier than chickens or quail…
And how long will you be without power?

24 hours without power. Chicken eggs. Had three different batches in there (because I'm an idiot and couldn't resist). One was due this weekend for the Easter Hatch-Along, another due next weekend, and the last due on the 20th for my grandson's birthday. Those last ones were put in on the 30th, the ones before on the 18th and 25th of March.

I quickly checked one of the banty eggs that I put in on the 25th, and actually saw movement. You would not believe how big the sigh of relief was! BUT, I still worry about deformities...

It all depends on how cold these eggs have been… - Did your power cam back?

Does that mean there will be some non-blurry pictures of freshly hatched ducklings here soon?
This is my first time using this incubator (borrowed from @Magnolia Ducks ) but I hope to get some pics . The ducklings won't be with us long because I am hatching for the guy who runs the dump in our precinct. He lost his ducks to a neighbor's dog (familiar story ?) and really missed them.
