Thank you for letting me know as the feathers are all the way out now. I will just clip them to make it more comfortable. It doesn't seem to bother it at all, it just looks sort of crazy.
If it is just one or two feathers, he will be fine (Ralphi Dux is ok) but if it is more, or if they stand out in a really weird angle the feathers can be caught somewhere and the duck can hurt itself, so, correct, cut them off.
I only heart that this won't grow out, i have not observed it myself.
Ralphi has just started with his molt…

Thanks, it is most of the wing so tomorrow I will nab him and give him a clipping. I hate that the clipping sticks out badly too but at least it won't get caught on anything like you said. I was waiting for it to grow all the way out so that I would not hit a blood feather and make her bleed but it looks pretty well grown out now. Thanks for the advice.

DUCK-TAPE! :gig

Just kidding!

You can buy something that is called VetWrap (expensive) or you can visit the harmacy of your choice and buy 1st aid wrap (dirt-cheap).
Its basically a stretchy more or less sticky tape that you wrap around the bird's body to gently push those feathers towards the body. Ralphie Dux has some feathers grown out sideways and once the feathers have fully grown, it cannot be corrected.
I am all out of Duck Tape, lol but I have some liquid nails!!!!! LOL

I know that wild Mallards can be really mean, they have learned to defend themselves. My drakes found that out the hard way several times when they got beaten up by a Mallard duck ½ their size.
Mine came from Metzer. One is larger than the other one and the smaller one acts more wild. She will eat out of my hand now after 3 years of being skittish. She just started that so that was surprising. She hates when I take her eggs but has gotten over it as she knows I am going to do it whether she likes it or not, lol.
