Last week, I had an unfortunately broody hen go missing, signs of struggle and feathers everywhere. I took the remaining eggs and placed them in the incubator.

Forgot the dates, and was still turning them, until today I noticed pips! So, no more turning. This is chicken, btw. Sorry to crash on a duck thread with this, lol!
Pictures? :caf

They enter their house when it gets dark, I come up directly afterwards and tie the wire holding the door in three places, and stick in a bit of metal serving as a doorstopper. So far so good. We have foxes and weasels and polecats.
My ducks love to stay outside in the dark, but only if humons are around. During twilight, they hang out in front of the porch, but if it gets really dark, they all hide in the house and duck-run. Until i come home and make them supper. Then everybody runs back out making as much noise as they can.

Good News crew!
Now i have over sixty (60!) ducks. That was Tweedledee Duck yesterday:

You can spot two ducklings.

That's her today, outside with her ducklings for the first time:

Its hard to count, but so far there's six…

And there's another brooding pair, two Indian Runners, sitting on some eggs; couldn't count those due to the lack of fingers…

Not yet. They are still under foster-mom. Although I *did* peek just now after hearing chirping.

She's such a good momma! So friendly, she trusts me completely. I picked out egg shells, and lifted her fluff and saw two bebes, or parts of them, anyhow! She even took food from my hand as I poked around.

Try that with the dux, and there would be blood (mine) all over!

Dux are brutal!

I have a dragon duck. She's my only pure bred. A WH. I haven't had a broody in years. She's collected the runner eggs. Not any others or any of her own. Only runner eggs. I only have one runner hen, so she's getting the egg every morning and rolling it in her nest. I'm letting her sit. This is new for me.

I feel ducked!

Rented a trailer from you howl over the weekend, to buy the winter-stash for the dux.

This is what 794Kg (1750 lbs) of duck-food looks like.

full

  • 10 bags of Layer Pellets
  • 10 bags of cracked corn
  • 5 bags of yellow corn
  • 5 bags of scratch grain
  • 3 bags of Wheat for fodder
  • 2 bags of crushed oyster shells
Everything can stay in the bags, but the Layer Pellets; those i have to fill into trash-cans so it wouldn't get moldy. All i have to buy now is the cat-food, can't store cat-food for more than a month, it goes rancid.
