The only thing that ducks definitely need in really cold conditions is a draft free place. Unfortunately my dumb-dumb-ducks have not gotten that message, there is no draftier place on my land than in and around that stupid pond! Currently its around the freezing mark outside, the wind will become stronger and stronger and for the late moring snow-showers are in the forecast… Ducksickles anybody?

I had one that turned into a ducksickle. Managed to get him warmed up, he spent some time inside and when he was better and the temps mild enough he went back out. But he didn't make it. :( He was from my last clutch of the year, and I lost another of the ones in that clutch too. I think he may just have been too young, even though his feathers were grown in. He hatched in mid-august. I think I'll prevent any sitting from the scovies later in the season next year.

The rest of this year's ducklings (that I haven't sold) are doing fine though. As are all the adults. I still need to cull a couple of drakes...

Sometimes they are not made to survive… 😢
I am concerned about Blanca Duck: She has decided to grow a new down-jacket this week. Right when winter is ramping up its game - or ramping down, temperaturewise.
