The calls have survived the northie weather that came here in their Amazon ghetto pen. I was worried. I can't wait for winter to be over so we can build a proper barn. I really miss my duck palace. But they all sure do enjoy being able to have free range time so at least there's that. And it has been cool i can let them out all together without issues. You mean »Amazing Generous Pen« ?

I am sure they love their new home and those red buckets are a great idea!

Heck!

I almost forgot the most important news of the day!

The dux are back in the dux-house! Finally the pond froze over completely this afternoon. So i came back from town, saw them sitting beside the pond and deployed my secret dux herding weapon: An 8' long furring strip with a scary green plastic bag attached on one end…
Herding them back into their house was actually somewhat unexciting, it was more like they were waiting for somebody to take the initiative to lead them back downhill. Of course several stops to warm up their feet were required - it was lousy cold here during the day, the wind was blowing persistently, it was just awful. Here they are, running voluntarily into their house:
Congratulations! Wow, what a loud bunch!

I love how you can here the relief and joy in your voice. Hope they got a good treat for finally coming home.

Next few days are going to be rough here. My furnace stopped working, and no idea why. And of course, the coldest days of the season are upon us. Temps in the minuses for you Fahrenheit folks, and for the rest of the world around -21 Friday. High on Friday of only -16. Birds will be fed and allowed out only to stretch their legs.

As for me, I've got a new oil radiator helping out, as well as an upright heater, but even with those two it's currently about 52f / 12c inside my trailer. I'm wearing longjohns and sweatpants, a t-shirt and hoodie with the hood up, a blanket AND my winter coat over my legs, and a fleece jacket over my back. I may resort to gloves if it gets any colder in here.

Stay warm, stay safe!

Got Kerosene, Milk, a Cherry Cake, Whipped-Cream and sweet yeast rolls. - The dang storm can come. Winter-storm watch until Friday night, snow until Saturday morning:

We're in this with you as that is where I am too. I just pray that it skips us and we don't get much. I hate shoveling and am not looking forward to it. Good luck Frank with your flock, hopefully they will make their way up to their coop and stay there.

So sorry to hear this. Can you get someone out to fix it???? That sounds terrible!!!! I pray that you can get it working again. That is no weather to not have a furnace. I am praying that with the storm coming here we keep our power on. Good luck and stay warm.

Do you ever have any that try to fly off?? My one is just now showing me that he can fly but he has not tried to leave and some of my others that are not pinioned are also flying a good 4 foot off of the ground. The fence is 6 foot high though and so far they don't mind their boundaries and all of my flock stays together. I only have the 2 Calls and the rest are a variety.

Sooooo happy to see this Frank!!!! Yeah, they will be alright now and we don't have to worry about frozen duckcycles!!! You did a great job of getting them before the storm. Thanks for letting us know, I won't worry about them now.

No, I can't afford that. I'm going to look at it once the weather 'warms up' a little at the start of next week. In the meantime, it's bundle up. And if it gets to cold, go to my daughter's.
