We have some awful flies here this year: They sit down, bite so that it bleeds and then quickly lay eggs into the wound! Those are not horse-, cow-, or deer-flies, those look like metallic greenish, blueish and are really fast and annoying. Needless to say i scrubbed myself verrry thoroughly under the shower this evening…
Anybody else has noticed this pest before?

I have had wild birds making nests in the bird netting I have in my carport. Some have gotten trapped in the netting and when they die up there the flies come around quickly but I don't know what type of flies they are. This is the first time the birds have been dumb enough to make a nest in the netting. The flies you have sound really wicked Frank.

With all the rain here, we have massive amounts of biting insects. I haven't seen anything like what you describe though.

I almost die every day doing my chores in long pants and a hooded jacket.

I don’t think I could do that ! oh my! I just use a natural repellent. I usually wear jeans skirt spaghetti strap top and some nonslip sandals… i only had one tick so far this year. I usually get one or two. Normally, I get one or two wasp stings as well every year and maybe a few mosquito bites.? I read that mosquitoes are attracted to black and red so to prevent them from being attracted to you wear green and white

I need to inspect my bee-hives and i'm procrastinating because that will mean: Socks, Jeans, T-Shirt, Hoodie, Leather Gloves and Bee-Veil.
I'll be soaked in less than 10 seconds…

Our high is only 74 for today so we are having great weather. Sorry yours is not so great Frank. Good luck in inspecting them. Can you wait until evening when the sun goes down or does it have to be done in the sun?

I usually run around in faded shorts and white t-shirts and have become so immune against Mosquito bites and other insect stings that i don't feel them anymore. - Remember i lived in Texas, there the Mosquitos have their own ticks… 😏

It is best to do that during a warm day, because most of the worker bees won't be inside the hive then = less opportunity to be grabbed and air-lifted away to the dump…

Minus the fast part they sound like blow flies, which is what causes all the sheep death deverstation in Aust. Fly blown sheep are no fun. They get into hatching eggs too

We recently had an unfortunate event when the beehives tipped over from their stand because of rain. The stand's legs have a small footprint so they generate a lot of pressure on the soil surface and when the soil got wet... they just sank in (eventually).

So I had to come in to replace the stand with a better one and also put the hives back into a normal position. They are full of honey and I work with bees alone... so it was necessary to break the hives up and move box by box. In a swarm of annoyed bees. In a full suit. During a series of 35 C days :(

Everybody survived, including the bees.
