These are beautiful dogs... Over here we love large dogs so much.

Our veteran of 13 years has passed away 2 weeks ago. It was a hard time for everybody, just a suffocating weight of pain. The ducks made us smile at least a little.

Our younger dog, a 2 year old female, remains with us and is now queen of the castle, taking her guardian job seriously and bringing us joy.

i’m so 😢 sorry . yet thankful you have this lovely one still. 🥰

I'm sorry to hear this :( I can barely protect against a fox, I wouldn't know what to do about a pack of 'yotes. Maybe it's time for you to get a livestock dog. Or some Canada Geese.
Would Canada Geese really be up to fight three coyotes?
Lesson to be learned: do not anger your friendly neighbourhood German! Unless you want a shovel broken over your head!
No, the shovel is still fine, just the handle broke. - But i am sure it was weakened by a knot.

YES!! Which one will you chooseView attachment 3929515
Definitely no dog!
First: I am absolutely not a dog person. I'd rather have a herd of cats before one dog!
Second: I spend about $60 per month in cat-food for my spoiled rotten feather cats. - Livestock guardian dogs are usually large breeds and need - how much dog-food per month?
Third: My ducks are terrified of dogs. They have seen their friends, spouses, offspring, nieces and nephews being abducted and/or killed by the neighbors dogs. I am sure if a dog moves in here, the ducks will move out!

Still thinking about geese, but something larger but not too large like emu-geese or ostrich-geese and strictly vegetarian… 🤔

Great Pyrenees are suppose to be great guard dogs. Even my Chihuahua would try to chase off one though and not be afraid of it so it really just depends on the dog itself. You can have a great breed and it might be afraid of its own shadow. I read where you can use sticks in the ground and put rags soaked in ammonia or colonge wrapped around the top of them and that will keep them away. They sell liquids that you can buy but you have to reapply everything I have mentioned after each rain. Here that would be no problem as we have not had rain for quite some time. Good luck Frank with whatever you decide to do and I am so sorry for the loss of your precious bird. I am happy you were able to save your other one and that you got out there in time to keep any more from getting killed.
I used the stinky-smell solution a couple of years ago to keep the neighbors dog off my property, it worked well until the wind changed direction…
And no smell will stop a pack of hangry coyotes. :idunno

They are called Cobra Chickens for a reason! :lau
I *was* joking about that, I wouldn't recommend them. There are other species that do well, perhaps African Geese?

Sure sure. ;)

Hardware shops sell broom/mop handles, I wonder if a wooden one would do the trick. Or prehaps an axe handle would be more comfortable to swing off?
The shovel has a new wooden handle as of today. - I cannot work with these newfangled fiber-crap handles, i need wooden handles for everything. Wood cushions impacts and protects your wrists.

Sorry to hear that! - Even as a non dog-person i know about that nagging pain in the heart after having lost a friend of long-years.
