Look at that beautiful example of a fungal mycelium forming. The individual strands are known as fungal hyphae (Greek for web), and the collection of them forms the mycelium. The mycelium is known as the vegetative portion of fungi. Sometimes you might notice if there's a clump of mushrooms growing, underneath it there's a large pad that's the same consistency as a mushroom. That is an advanced stage of the mycelium. I hope you all enjoyed the lesson for the day. And always remember, it's better to be a fungi than a not fun guy. ;);):p

I mentioned I'd likely play some music you guys won't like. This is likely going to be part of it, but it fits the mood at the moment, which is horrible.

I know I just talked about overcoming pain, but emotional pain is different. I'm feeling a bit devastated and like a failure. I was moving the Serama/guinea cage in prep of the shack. The guineas are a pain in the ass, so I let the Seramas out to hop around for a bit while catching guineas. They never go farther than 10, and I go farther they'll normally fly and perch right on me. I don't have to call and I don't have to crinkle a treat bag. They just do it.

About 30 minutes ago, a hawk took Izzy right in front of me. I missed stomping it's head in by 2 inches. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! I could hear her screaming as they flew over the house. It's not hard for me to get attached to an animal, but Izzy was special too me. She was the adventurous one who liked to nuzzle in my neck and go to sleep. She'd come visit me at night while I was working in the shack. She the reason like chickens.... I feel like I'm going to throw up....

Thanks guys. Today is a new day, and deserves a new outlook. Im still pretty bothered by the lose, but did know it was a serious possibility, I just didn't think it was that serious. Not that it was smart at all, but I was so close I tried to grab the hawk to save her. I am aware though of the deadly force a hawks talons are. There's nothing I could have realistically done at that point. Maybe got injured myself, but that's about it. The heart and the head are not always on the same page.

I'm the type of person who causes 5 car pile ups to save a turtle in the road. It's just part of my nature. I also believe in not disturbing nature, ie: feeding raccoons or raising wild found animals. So at times I have internal conflicts on what's "right." I don't think it's right nor am I okay with it, but what happened could simply be looked at as nature prevailing.

I really feel in love with her fast though...
