Something tried to break into the dux fortress during the night from Saturday to Sunday. When i dug out the dux run in the past, i collected all of the rocks and placed those around the fence base. Found some of them removed and a hole dug about 30cm -almost one foot deep in one corner.
While the dux were enjoying their Sunday break at the pond something entered their fortress through the open gate and ate four of their eggs - only the eggs on the dux-shelf remained untouched...
No clue what did this. - Some of the rocks that were moved were large and heavy enough for me to struggle when i put those back.
Are giant mutated trash pandas real?
Moving a heavy rock out of a hole requires hands, which foxes or coyotes lack.
Have raccoons and coyotes teamed up?
Questions over questions… ❓❓❓
We have had some very large raccoons here. They are the size of a small dog and very strong. I would guess a raccoon as they are very good with their paws. They also love the eggs. I am glad that your ducks are all safe at least.

Since that event on last weekend the new policy is:
»Everyduck sleeps in the house. No exceptions!«
This has been enforced by Mr. LaserPointer: Every evening i walk up to the pond and "convince" the stragglers to come down to the house. I have no idea why my ducks are scared of that red dot. The wild Mallards just ignore it…
And you are correct: Last night i spotted two large Trash Pandas lurking in the dux-yard. The dux woke me up with their »predator alert« calls. Sadly i was too slow with the air-rifle and missed.

The Harlequins have arrived - 3 days from Brindisi, Italy due to a detour via Austria for some reason. Would have taken 2 days by bicycle :)

(Note to self - do not fire up the stove)

Good Luck with hatching those!
Please keep us updated.

Here Sunny Sunshine is already searching for a spot to nest on the patio, but i want her to have her babies in the new - not yet finished - momma-shack. I want the patio to be empty after plant season is over in May.

Since the fox attack our ducks are super disciplined... Often when I come to pack them up they are already inside, correctly sorted, or at the very least when they see a wobbly mobile light coming from the house they start going to bed.

I don't know how long this is going to last, my bet would be not very long :) , but let's enjoy it while it does.

11 eggs today from 13 ladies, now we're getting somewhere.
