Here is the first candling report for our Welshies on day +7 :

- we are using 2 x 12 egg incubators
- in each one, 4 eggs do not show veining, only a slightly dark smallish mass
- in each one, the other 8 eggs are doing well, showing nice obvious veins and a much larger developing mass

So we are at 2/3 starting performance - I consider this not bad considering the time of the year and the fact that the eggs have been traveling for 3 days in winter conditions.

Is it possible to get 25% more daily eggs than there are duck hens? Oh yes.

The thing is that the ducks got a bit confused about the concept of "daily": we were 4 anticipated eggs short yesterday and these made up the extra number today.

I need a larger bucket!

I don't really... From the photos on the breeder's site they look more likely to be gold. However, as I understand it, if you have golds and hatch your own, you'll eventually get silvers as well.

From what I've been reading the UK breeder associations (our guy is Italian but his ducks have British bloodlines) are looking down their noses at silvers and do not consider them real Welshies, whereas in the US it's the other way around.

I got nine today which surprised me. I have to make some decisions on what I am going to do with them because I am getting a stock pile.
