Did you know that you can grow really large, white mushrooms on the pepper plants you over-wintered from last year?

I found this duck-sized mushroom in one of my Habañero plants today. Second pot from the left in the row at the window…

All it would take is a box with straw and Sunny would be sitting on eggs again…
No this year! I need to renovate and insulate the patio and turn it into a sun-room slash greenhouse.

I had one of my ducks lay their egg in the feed bowl the other day. Funny ducks!!! Your plants are looking good Frank!!

I don't have any idea why a snapper should dig at the duck house, they are not actively hunting ducks, are they? - You're right, definitely trash-pandas, there are two large males roaming around here, plundering whatever they can get their thumb-less hands on.
They scare the dux to death and tried to dig into the house multiple times. So far there was no good angle to use the air-rifle - don't want to shoot a duck by accident, so it's time for the trap again…
Snappers eat ducks. But my understanding is that they usually come up from underneath and eat the young ones on ponds. But if one developed a taste - they might pursue them. They are diggers and can get big and strong.

Little old Teeny duck with her bum leg is enjoying life in her private pen under the Pussy Willow tree ( noticed you call it GOAT Willow elsewhere? Where I grew up in North Jersey we always called it pussy willow. ) whenever the Drake walks by she shouts “ hey you wanna fight ?” And they squabble through the fence., oh lovely retirement for little old teeny duck 🦆

They are beautiful!!! I have only heard of the Pussy Willow bushes and never seen a tree before of it. What is it you use for your ground cover for your beautiful ducks? It looks nice and dry and right now my sand is pretty saturated with the rain we have had.

Thank you so much! The area they’re in this pic has been through 9 years of adding sand and gravel whenever it muddy puddles and now it’s nice and firm. There are still some other areas in the yard that do get very muddy.

Yes, formally it's goat willow, salix caprea. But many species of willows form catkins and yours looks like possibly a weeping willow? (salix babylonica).

Awesome duck life :)

We've had an "event" while incubating the Welshies...

Sometime between yesterday evening and now, so anytime during the last 24 hours, a water hose somehow slipped out of the water (???) and when I now looked at the indicators, the humidity was only 28% (vs. the target of 42). No idea for how long.

It's day 17. Should I just stick it back and carry on or is some special recovery treatment necessary? I'm spraying the eggs once daily the last few days...

I believe all should be well because in our (quite limited) experience low humidity has worked out better than higher.

Thanks!

I think yours will be just fine. I have been incubating some eggs just for fun. The drakes I have are 3 Call Drakes and a Woody Drake. I have no idea who's the Momma duck since I have 20 hens. The eggs I am doing are not very big and sort of greenish so I was thinking maybe my Mallards but they are old now, 5, so maybe not. My humidity has been all over the place and some were not even fertile yet one yesterday when I checked was doing just fine. No telling how far it will go but the humidity with mine has not been stable since day one and is still going strong on day 13. Good luck with your Welshies, I hope they all make it. My Gold one is a beautiful duck and I just love her.
