Yup.
Because my original standard size duck was a Rouen drake that we took in from some friends because his harem was murdered and they didnt want to get any more ducks. Naturally we HAD to get him some friends and that is how I wound up with my first cayugas. A local byc friend gave me two girls.
Annnd then... a few months later
some stray dogs or a fox (not sure which) killed him.
We incubated some eggs hoping some would be fertile and only one hatched. The drake we still have now so he is half Rouen and half cayuga. That is why he has orange legs and a lighter bill color. View attachment 4084934View attachment 4084935

Oh your ducks are beautiful!!! I had not gotten to see the picture of them before I told Wanna Be how a Rouen duck is made, lol. I have thought about putting straw down in my pen but I had heard it could mold and that scared me off. My pens are large and it would take a lot and it gets very wet at times too.

I have never had an incubator before, but I’m thinking about getting this one It might just show up for Mother’s Day lolView attachment 4084602

That looks like a nice one. I wonder if it is in Fahrenheit or Celsius? I would rather have one in Fahrenheit but I know some are Celsius.

What is the lowest your incubator got to though??? I finally gave in and added some water as my duckling was all on one side of the egg and I still doubt if it makes it but it is still alive on day 10.

I don't really know what would be realistic (as an actual result). The previous time we've had a good result with 40-ish %. The room is around 45% (wood fired winter heating) but the incubator's inside humidity keeps dropping because of the heating element. It's a model that automatically pulls water from a jar through a hose so you need to set the target humidity and right now we're using 42.

Mine is not like that at all. It has columns under the eggs where you can add water but just a little bit can make the humidity go really high. Our house is humid but since this is enclosed it is not drawing any humidity from the house. Thanks for your information though. I am just doing this for fun but really wish I could get a Call Duck egg to hatch out. My egg has the shadowing all laying on one side of the egg which I am not sure what that means. There is an air cell though at the end of it and I can see movement still on day 10 but it has a long ways to go in order to make it.

Built a bachelour pad fir my spare roosters yesterday. I must give off some kind of vibe that I'm easy prey because whenever I uave young roosters free ranging, one will always try pick a fight if I sit too long. Yet when they are penned I can go in and do my thing and be respected

Day 23, tomorrow we start lockdown.

I think we have one more egg that didn't make it. When candling it doesn't just have an uniformly dark and light part, it also has a lighter brown shade and it smells a little bit.

I would like to remove it from the incubator as to not to risk it spoiling the environment for the others.

But I'm not experienced enough (this is our 3rd hatch) to tell if maybe I would just be throwing away a viable duckling.

Is anything obvious just from the photo?

There is only veining on the side that is developing but there is also movement in it. It is a light yellow on the top half of the egg. I think my turner on this old incubator stopped working and that is why it is this way. I have had them make it to day 18 and then not make it any further so I don't have a lot of hope for it. I ended up ordering this one for 18 eggs. It's supposed to come the first week of April but that doesn't always happen here. I don't want to hatch that many but it will be nice to have something that will hatch some instead of the one I have now that is not doing the job. Thanks for showing me this one.

The smell would have me concerned as any that I have ever had that smelled ended up not being any good. They say they can explode and ruin the rest of the hatch but I will leave it up to you as to what you want to do with it. Good luck with your hatch and keep us posted.
