Hey there A2L! I actually don't have chickens. The babies are guinea fowl keets, and a ball of joy to watch.

That's pretty silly about the bee, lol. My ducks seem like... they have a lot of learning to do. The other day it was 100f here so I was looking for ways to keep them cool. I got the hose with a shower head and cool well water. I sprayed it about 5 feet from them and they ran. So I followed trying not to scare them, but still get them wet. Finally one split off and caught in the water. After 5 seconds, she started nipping at the "rain" and quacking. It stopped the other 3 in their tracks, and in the "rain" they went.

Now I'm getting harassed while watering the garden in the morning, hehe.
Mine do that to XF. The males also play fight.

I've been working on the duck/guinea house. I found the plans for an A-frame chicken coop/run combo and modified it. The footprint is 8x8 and the peak is 7ft.

The guinea roosts are spaced at 18" from the center, with 5 total. The roost in the middle is about 5" lower, but the 2x4 frame left very little room placings it even with the others.

I've got some 1/4" HC for making ventilation. Im thinking of putting in a hinged hatch in the roof for extra vents when needed. I know most here seem to deal with a cold winter, but extreme heat is more of a concern here. We tend to wear shorts and still have active gardens in January... Nothing like hustling in the heat.

Hopefully it'll be finished in the next couple of days. Have a good day folks!

How many birds will be in there?

17 ducks with 9 off them being runners. Potentially the 5 guinea too, but I'm not really sure yet. If it's ducks alone, it's 3.7 sq/ft per duck.

The original plan for the roosts was actually a storage area, which I'm starting to think is a better idea...
