Im not sure what im doing on this site yet still learning how to post questionJust to let you know. You'll likely draw more attention to your question posting a new thread either in the duck sub-forum.

Or maybe even in the chicken behaviors sub-forum. (there is no duck behaviors area)

I was in the middle of typing the above text when my wife came home, and I booked it to the mentioned farm.
So, as I was saying...
Sandra, the owner of A Fowl Business invited me to come out and take a tour and enjoy a chat about birds. I was going to buy some eggs, but there was a bit of confusion on my part, and I was given eggs for free to hatch instead!

Now in regards to that, I could use some advice. I don't expect the other eggs to show up for another 5-6 days. These eggs where laid today, but freshness is a concern for success. Can I do anything to extend the life of the egg until the rest of the eggs get here?
They are from her laying hens, but they are barnyard mix. I did get to meet her most of her flock including most of the fathering roos, but the layers are free ranged with the roos. She keeps and sells purebred chickens, but likes her barnyards for her eating eggs.
After Izzy was snatched by the hawk, I've been fighting the urge to replace her. I still had plenty of chickens, and didn't want to make a decision based purely on emotion. Then I lost over half of the Bantam Barnyards, and decided to restructure the flock with the larger birds. The plan is to rehome the Bantams and probably the Silkies too. (sorry Silkies are just some seriously boring birds...). One breed that is not going anywhere though are the Seramas. I'm still just head over heels for them. A'pollo's crowing is actually cute, and Nugget is finally filling in and just beautiful. I love these birds so much, I just refuse to let them go.
Looks like I need a current pic of Nugget...

Well, Sandra had some very cute Seramas, and I decided to get another hen. I had the option of 5 different frizzles I could take, but then she told me she had 3 chocolate hens with regular flat feather. When I originally called her around fathers day, it was for a chocolate hen, and she had none at the time. It's actually part of the reason I got the Bantam mix to begin with. Out with the frizzle and in with the chocolate!
I'm still thinking of a name, but here she is!View attachment 1842534 View attachment 1842530 View attachment 1842532 View attachment 1842533 View attachment 1842530

Well for starters, welcome to BYC. The best place to embrace a bird addiction!Im not sure what im doing on this site yet still learning how to post question
Thank you very much! I'm trying to rationalize more Seramas by saying 1 laying hen is worth at least 4 Seramas. By that chicken math, I'm about 9 tiny chicken short.Beautiful serama hen! I keep saying I should downsize, and my seramas just keep hatching more chicks! Lol
Those eggs will be fine for the week till you get the others. Just keep the air cell end up, in an area that isn’t too warm or too dry. A bit of humidity will help keep the air cells small. Some folks like to tilt the egg carton daily, but I don’t bother with it.
