I should probably do some research on the breed. Chris wants an Ayam rooster SO bad, but I have terrible luck with roos, and if they're prone to being aggressive buttholes, we might have to go another way. I love my free ranging birds, but if I have a rooster that wants to attack me and our kid left right and sideways, it ruins the whole relaxing farm vibe whenever I'm outside. I don't enjoy having to walk around with a stick and practice my ninja moves.

I bred ACs for about six years. Never had an aggressive rooster :)

I've read a few stories of them being aggressive to other birds but not people. This guy was the main roo at one time. He wasn't really aggressive but the other birds where on edge around him. When I brought in Sully, Umbra (AC) was not happy at all. He would start trouble and pick on others. He's calmed down a bunch and has actually been pretty good recently, but I'd never introduce him to a chick. I have no doubt he'd attack anything that small. He's never been a threat to us humans though.

@Miss Lydia would love your thoughts on these two. The smaller one (in front of the little, little one) with cleaner face I think maybe a girl? and the bigger one with the heap of carnucles and chunky legs has the egg pouch. He looks like the other 2 big boys otherwise

That's why I'm nervous about adding new breeds. We have such a good thing going with the orpington, silkie and serama bunch now - they're just so chill. I've literally never had any picking or bullying. Now, I don't bring in new chickens, so that may have something to do with it. With the exception of four of our original girls, which were shipped chicks from Meyer Hatchery, everyone else here has been hatched here. Most of my babies are raised by broody mamas, and no one messes with them, not even the roos. Even when I incubate eggs myself, we have a little area under the poop tray where I put up a divider with a little opening big enough for the chicks to go through, but nothing else. All chicks are fully integrated into the flock by 2-3 weeks old, it's fabulous. Learned that trick here on BYC.

So yeah. I'm really hoping I don't mess up a good thing by hatching all of these new breeds this year.
