I love your avatar so cute! I am sure you will do well with this endeavor what breeds are you interested in preserving?
The picture is from his birthday party. I was amazing how much confidence he gained that night. Before it he would be very cautious to try to walk, always have 2 hand in contact with something. They had one of the walk behind toys though, and he spent almost an hour just walking back and forth. By the time we got home he was not only comfortable using just one hand, but took a couple of steps on his own. Mary and I had out hearts instantly melted.

I'm not really sure what breeds I would like to work with. Originally the plan was for eggs and pest management which is why I went with the Runners and Anconas. The more I learned the more I want/ed to do focused breeding on critical or threatened status endangered breeds.

I would love to work with the Dutch Hookbill or the Saxony ducks. The Anconas are now on the watch list, so they are not in as critical of needs, but I think they would offer me a good starting point to hone my skills. (though the runners are WAY cooler to have around)

For chickens I think I'll always have pet quality Seramas. Although I think show quality Seramas are kind of neat, the look is just a bit unnatural to me. Crèvecoeur, Campine, and Oriential Game Fowl are also breeds that really hold my interest.

I plan to take breeding seriously from the get go, but I don't expect to reach the status I'd like for at least 2-3 years. Although genetics in general are the same for people, plants, and animals(genotype, chemotype, phenotype and so on). I am still rather uneducated of duck and chicken genetics. I've got a lot of reading to do, followed by a lot more "apprentice" breeding.
