We are at 37 right now..

Beautiful day if a deer would just walk up to me and ask to be shot...

Holy smokes folks, you've been on a roll. I'm still busy as can bre and have not caught up. I thought I could at last leave an update. I've been busy networking with a few chicken people in between doing various jobs here here at my mom's.

I've got the ducks listed via 2 different breeders and 3 are trying to help me rehome the Dampierre cockerel. I do quite enjoy Nibbler, but he's not fitting in and he's just getting picked on. Even Pearl the guinea is rough with him. They are trying to help new find a home that he will be the only rooster, and not harvested for meat.

The ducks are hopefully going to be thinned down to just Runners.

I wanted to replace the 2 pullets to keep the male/female ratio from going to overboard. It was already in an uncomfortable spot. I called many people searching for soon to retire hens. I did find one breeder who plans on retiring A Flock within the next month or two, but I couldn't find anybody that had any today. There were a couple Craigslist ads it didn't look bad, but they were not from breeders just from other backyards. I don't have a problem with that but if I'm buying an older chicken I'd rather be from somebody with a reputation.

Since I couldn't find any older hens that really flooded my boat, I took a look at pullets. I kind of wanted an adult bird that way I could just quarantine, and then integrate them. But beggars can't be choosers at times. I get in touch with the lady that breed Shea, the chocolate cuckoo Serama. She has English Orpington, which I like much better than the American version. I ended up getting 1 Lavendar, and 1 Jubilee. They are younger than I wanted, but I was having a hard time getting anything else I wanted, figured I'd at least get a breed I wanted. The mothers to these girls are freaking huge

When I was getting ready to go pick up the pullets, I got a call from Fort Christmas Farm, and was offered the retired hens I was looking for. Tomorrow I'll go pick up 6-7 hens that are 2-4 years old free of charge. It will massively improve M:F mix. Once Nibbler is rehomed that will give me 2 large cockerels. There will still be younger ones, but they are either going to be sold or just given away.

Anyways, just wanted to drop a note af to what's going on here. I hope everyone I'd having a great weekend. Toodles!

Hi there Patti! Yeah I've decided for the time to stick with the Runners and sell the rest. The Ancona could be a more profitable endeavor but my ducks are not really breeder quality. Overall for my own pets, I just love the Runners. Both breeds are have great personalities, forage like pros, and are pretty low maintenance, but the Runners... I just love'em!

The Pekins just go "QUACK QUACK QUACK!!!" everytime I walk by. I'm pretty sure that translates into "here comes the feed sack everybody tackle him!!!" I still don't think they like me. :smack

I got ti name a rooster at three beers house today. She has a Cochin/Brahma x Silkie "mutt" that was just beautiful. His primary colors where cream and mahogany with a bit of gray in his tail. Very fluffy with a nice flowing look when he walked. I told her I though he was amazing looking and reminded me of a rootbeer float. The young fella is now known as Rootbeer. ;D
