it will help soften the core.. but I would put antibiotic cream on it... because the moisture and warmth is a bacteria incubator..

You want something to inhibit bacteria growth..
Also and this is a shot in the dark.. vinegar soak might lower the ph to inhibit fungus, no idea on bacteria though.
What's staph?Also... prepare yourself for the worst, bumblefoot on two feet is going to be difficult to beat..
