Have you checked for parasites? Could they be scratching and making themselves bloody?
It's at there tail feathers and under them, along with in between there wings. There wings, neck and chest feathers are fine. No parasites, wouldn't the chickens have parasites to if that were the case?
 
Ollie wanted to say hello! Even my mom who is not chicken crazy loves this big fella. He's just got something special about him. Here very gentle, almost timid, but very sweet. When he got here he didn't want to eat much. Me and the previous owner think he was depressed plus he went through a diet change. So he's been getting scrambled eggs with nutru-drench, sardines, and game feed. I've also figured out that smell, though repels human, really drives birds nuts. ;)

Oh Adam has healed and just about all the purple is gone from his comb now.
