I will admit, however, that when I was a kid, I had no idea how the whole chickens-making-chicks scenario happened. I’d always heard “the rooster has to fertilize the eggs to get baby chicks.” But to me, I was thinking the hen laid the eggs and then the rooster would come in afterwards and do some kind of voodoo dance over them or something.

Sometimes I wish that was correct. I’d have an easier time keeping a roo from overeating hens that way, lol.
