Having mini dachshunds and them wanting to chase up the mountain if they hear something. It took me so long to convince my husband to not let them out of the gate after dark. We've had coyote right up behind the house in the woods and my 3 dachshunds would make a nice meal.

And here’s a good article on the Coywolves and a PBS documentary on it.

They are not still interbreeding AFAIK. It was over 100 years ago due to some extenuating circumstances and now they’ve been pretty established for a while. They are also part dog and quite successful.

Here’s a more detailed article explaining their DNA breakdown and how most scientists now just consider them a subspecies, Eastern Coyote, rather than “coy wolf” or any of the other flashy names, but either way... they have quite a bit of wolf and dog in them.

Yeah they would likely snatch them up easily!!

Most of the Coyotes here have moved to the other side of the mountain, far away from us. But, when we first moved in here, we had a pack of four who wanted to argue about who the house belonged to. They were so bold that they'd come up on the deck at night. We solved that problem and as I expanded my territory they moved on. Every now and again I'll hear them over near the neighbors place. And it's not that infrequent I hear a stray dog falling prey to them.

That’s good they moved away!!! But OMG! That’s bold!! here they’ll cross the street right in front of you and look at you and everything. Friends and family have also seen them when walking their dogs early in the morning and they don’t run away even if you have a dog with you. They’re very bold. Foxes too. That’s sad about the dogs but I guess it’s just prey to them.

So here's what we do. We stalk everyone that advertises a feather wreath, and pay their birds a visit. Then we'll "liberate them" from their captors, freeing up the market, accelerating demand and controlling supply. Whatta ya think?
