Hey there. How's the Quack Shack coming?

It's getting there! We haven't really done much in a few days since it's been so warm. We'll probably finish up this weekend when it cools down a bit. i talked to the breeder that I'm getting duck eggs from (well, all but the runner eggs) and she's supposed to send them out in the next few days. I'm really hoping that the runner eggs end up shipping soon, otherwise I may not set them at all. I'm not sure I want to brood two separate batches of ducks.

What other breeds are you getting? :pop

I should have Welsh Harlequin, Saxony and she's throwing in some Buff Orpington duck eggs as well - all coming next week! I pre-ordered blue, black and fawn & white runner eggs from another seller, but I don't think it's going to time out right, so I'm kind of bummed about not having runners, but maybe next year!

when are your different eggs arriving? You may still be able to do a joint hatch.

I love idea of a slightly staggered duck hatch. It means less in small brooder (in my case it's inside) for those first few days. Which means less stink! And ducks are way easier to integrate than chickens. My chicken guy hatches muscovies weekly and chucks them all in together. There can be a month difference (youngest in pen is 2 weeks) and he has no issues

I'm not real sure, that's the issue. I read the eBay listing wrong when I bought them. I thought it said sometime in March, which is great, but it said March OR April, so... it could be a month or more before I get those eggs.

Are ducks not big jerks when it comes to adding new flock members? The quack shack is only 4x8, so not a lot of room to separate two broods (plus only one pop door to the outside.)

Ducks are the most social critters! You can add new ducks anytime. Occasionally you may have a drake (like my pekin) whose abit of a bully but once they learn their place they are fine. My runner drake and cayuga drake I put straight in together (runner drake abiut 6 months old, cayuga 2yrs old) with no dramas and they now work as a team protecting their girls
