Yeehaw y'all!

This is one section of the pin I'm working on. The back wall was just temporary to hold the ducks.

This is the temp "wall' and will actually be a door to the other half. It will be where the roost and feeders go, and will have solid walls.

When I say half, I'm referring to the 2 office tables being used for frames/roofs. They measure 27"H 23"D & 57"L. In between those I'm building a frame that will have a top hatch style door. The frame will extend the length by 7'. The total foot print should be 11'x 5' minus a couple of inches.

The top hatch door is a 57"² (exact same as the tables) chainlink fence gate. I cut the post down, turned the hinges to 90°. When the center frame is done I'll get u-bolts and place it in the middle. With it being so short, I'll at least have a large access point for maintaining.

There is currently a door on the side of the pin in the first picture. I'll also have a small one on the other side. It's going to have 4 doors in total. Should be easy to access any party of it.

Once the 55 Flowery are grown out, I'll breakdown their pin and add it to this one. The general idea would be to just stack the tables and raise the height up to around 6'. I want to be able to walk inside it, sit down, hang out...

Oh yeah, if your still following along... I bid on those bantam Polish. I'll explain that in another post. All hail chicken math!

I like your tinkering. Do you find less is spilled when you suspend the feeders?
Yeah, as long as they can't jump and perch on it. If they do they can spill it. The above feeders are actually hung back compared to the waterer. That way if they try to jump they just hit the wood and bounce off. Plus it helps keep them cleaner too. The bantam setup is only about 3 inches off the ground, but it's high enough they don't scratch and fling crap in them.

Okay, there is a plan. Y'all know my plans are in a constant state of motion. "They" say when the zombie apocalypse comes its won't be the strong who trudge through. Wont be the smart ones who think of a great plans that make it. It'll be the ones who can adapt to their new circumstances in life who thrive... If that's true I should be pretty good with zombies. ;)

So here's the plan. Stare at this and forget everything else.

Alright, now that I have a frizzle fella, I can't use the frizzle girl. That puts me down to two d'Uccle girls. I'd like to have 4-6 girls for Sir Frizz. I can get more d'Uccle eggs, but not chicks. I actually can't find any bantams locally is even want to use. I want unique features, so Seramas/Silkies/Cochin (females) are a no go.

I've had a chat with the seller and they said their boys top out at 2 lbs, and are full bantam. I guess taking a bantam Polish to a LF Polish is kind of common. Reading descriptions, there where a few people mention "NOT bantam x LF." :idunno They made sure to let me know they bred true for size. So there's that... If I win and hatch frizzle girls, they'll join the bantam flock.

Here's a couple of the sellers pictures...

Oh yeah... Hehe.
I'm trying to get a couple of their bantam EE eggs too. They would be fertilized by a bantam mottled Cochin... It's probably a small chance, but what if they hatched out bantam OEs... I don't know the color egg her boy or Sir Frizz throw, but... it could (i think'ish) happen... It would be a 3rd mix using the 1 fella. Perfect fantasy flock is Sir Frizz A'lot over 2ea Polish, d'Uccle, & OE...

I think the duck shack should be just about complete today. Our farm builder guy is coming over tomorrow to see about expanding our hardware cloth area around the duck shack and a few other projects that we'd like to have done. Our son's little egg selling business has suddenly taken off with word getting around his school. We now have a waiting list for eggs. 😳 So we're going to see about expanding our chicken coop so we can accommodate some more laying hens. If I could get something together before the lake county fair, maybe I can go and purchase a couple of hens to get our order situation under control.
