Nope. This is an actual parasite. The other things leading to their decline were anti hunting activists.

We have a high percentage of people in the state that are anti-hunting, anti-fishing and anti eating or wearing anything that comes from an animal.

Oh and anti-gun, they are all very vocal also.

I am a dinosaur, cause I like eating meat, fish, dairy, hunting, fishing and my guns.
:highfive:

Wow I had a strangely interesting day... I have a wooded area on the far side of a 2 acre plot and there live 3 (I assume) crows.
I always have birds of prey, almost daily, hunting in the hay field around me. Mostly because it's overrun with voles, sigh. But today there was a persistant hawk, he hung around ALL day. And those crows gave him hell ALL day, lol!! I mean really harassed him. What a racket they made, crows cawing and hawk screeching. Wish I was able to video it, it was rather awesome. That hawk was eyeballing my chickens so I need to find a way to feed those crows so they stay close. Biggest crows I've ever seen.

Part 2 of the strangely interesting day... early this morning I heard an odd noise and heard vehicle noises about 6 am, looked but didn't see anything.
Later that morning I saw 2 deer hanging around the road at the end of the hay field. Then my neighbor stopped about noon and said someone hit a deer and it was in the ditch on my property. That explained the commotion this morning lol.

I have seen 3 deer all summer hanging around the woods and eating in the hay field. Once hunting season started pretty much daily. Well I think one of those 3 got hit. The strangely interesting part is I saw those 2 other deer 4 times today, just hanging around where that one is laying. Grazing in the ditch, didn't run when cars drove by, just being there. When it got dusk I actually walked down there and chased them away because I didn't really want them that close to the road in the dark.

Weird

Whenever I hear crow making a lot of racket they are usually harassing a hawk. That hawk must be hungry if it was hanging out all day. Do you have a covered run?

Deers seem more evil the dux. Alot of people seemto be full vegan or full carnivore in this country. I'm serious, the carnivore diet is gaining numbers daily

I have lots of crows around, if I have eggs that go bad I put them on top of my compost pile to ward off hawks and eagles. It’s an offering to my friends the crows.

I wish my crows were large enough to eat an eagle. They are my largest predator right now.

Yes they have protection, but usually have free ranging time. Although that depends on the weather these days. Yesterday was nice after several days of yucky weather. Winter is not my favorite season.
And yes I have noticed the connection between their noise and hawks in the vicinity, they seem to have a different warning cry whenever they are confronting a hawk. I'm learning to recognize that sound. When I say confronting I mean dive bomb aero attack show, they escorted him away several times and he kept coming back.
I had a kitten adopt me this summer and she is a hunting machine. She catches voles daily for fun. Good for her and I, bad for hawks and voles lol.
