My ducks must be belly buttons.
The cayuga ducks go EEEEK! and run away from littles.
And I've had call girls attack and kill little ones. 😭
:frow Good afternoon Shaw, have a great day

Disclaimer: My personal opinion, so please no offense to anybody!
Call ducks are in my opinion at the same level as crested ducks. Some are over breed to a dumb human defined standard. Their ducklings often assistance during hatching and the some ducks have necks too short to tug their bills under their wings. I have even seen "show-quality" call-ducks with too tiny bills, causing breathing problems.
In my experience the closer a duck is to "show-quality" the more likely that issues with health and behaviour occur.
Again: My personal opinion, i don't want to offend anybody.
:frow Good afternoon Hillbilly, have a great day

LOL my name is Cecilia But you are vert close! Have a wonderful day
She is over 400 miles from you, I think I am closer.

Welcome to BYC, I don’t think I have seen you here before, but I am old and forgetful. I see you joined on my Birthday. Good day to join.

@WannaBeHillBilly this seems to be the case with all species of animals that have a proper shape and a "show standard" shape. Yep even cattle. As for the feed.... I've noticed we've been chowing through the feed this week. I can usually put a large self feeder (I will work out weight today I think 5kg but am probably wrong) in with 14 birds and it lasts about 3days. But the last week it's been emptied in a night. I thought mice because we have a large mouse problem in Aus right now (some places even rats) but after a couple days the faces tell me it is probably the pekin. Am going to invest/build a trough today to pour food straight in to curb the mouses but I can tell you when those ducks are hungry its like jumping in a pool of piranhas

This is the absolutely correct method to integrate the ducklings with the ducks! If you are really lucky, one (or more) of your ducks will turn instant-broody and adopt the little ones on the spot. That happened with last year's Summer Ducklings: Pinball Duck hatched them and thought »Job done«! - Then two other ducks adopted the four little ducklings immediately and cared for them. So they had three Mommas protecting them.
I had the Fall-Ducklings outside as much as possible so that they all got used to each other and later they were on separate pastures, separated by just a small fence and they integrated into the flock perfectly.
Thank you so much, I feel much better about this set up now. I am going to put the HWC across the bottom just for the extra peace of mind. I have the tracking info already so going out to get the area ready 😁

My »Barnyard Surprise« ducks are by far the most healthy and fittest ducks of the flock. Even the two crested drakes go strong and shove their father (Erpelchen) out of the way when it comes to mating. And Misty Duck is almost as tall as LeRoy Brown Drake and cheeky. Always testing her limits.
Mice-problem when you have ducks? - I would borrow you Blanca, but on the way in there will be a problem with the immigration and on the way out she would be too heavy for any airplane or cargo-ship. She loves her mice crunchy! :sick
I have a Rubbermaid-tote with three street-elbows as feeding ports in the run and a 50lbs bag of pellets lasts for a little more than a week. But i don't know if that would work with Pekin ducks - assuming you don't want them to fatten up quickly and slaughter them at three months.
