Good day.

Usual drama:

Daughter wasn't up, grandson was watching TV and not dressed with his school bus arriving in 20 minutes.

Chased the bunny, he went into his cage on his own.

Daughter stepped on a nail and I had to wash her foot.

It's raining off and on.

And PeeWee Herman woke me at 6:15!!! Which is way too early for me, especially after not having slept half the night.

I'm going back to bed :th
Wait, you get to sleep in until 6:15?!?

🤣 to be fair I don't have to wake at 5am, but its abit hard to sleep when DHs 5 alarms are in the same room you sleep in. It's been a productive week here. 4 new mouse traps. Tried to call a stray in yesterday because I thought it was my shed cat. My eyesights not great without glasses and it walked directly past our young cat, towards me. But I think he is the father of the kittens because when he realised it was him I was calling he went wide eyed and took off to the creek. Anyway no more kittens, she's booked in to have her kitten factory removed in afew weeks.

Awwww! Kitties! She's a beautiful cat, and those are nice colours on the kittens. Especially that dark orange/ginger and the little torbie girl.

Too funny about the feral! Hopefully he'll come around and become one of the 'colony'. And maybe close down his own baby factory supply line.

I'll get up early if I have to, but detest being woken up when I don't!

Yes!

Really looking forward to duck eggs, I'm a pretty avid baker and everyone sings their praises, I've just heard the flavor is off-putting for some when eaten as eggs.

Time will soon tell.

I should probably give duck another go again at some point, only ever had it as pekin duck (the dish), and was just generally unimpressed.

Hahaha.. already want to add some muskovys, a couple appleyards and some anconas, ooo and a welshy or two. Nothing till next season though. 😆
Hmmm duck eggs don't really taste any different unless you are feeding them fish. The yolks are bigger and the whites cook faster and can be a bit tough, but no big flavor difference. So if you don't like eggs

What precious kitties ❤️

That's my big worry.

Our chickens are largely nameless, we've got 32 of the crazy things, and I know with that many we will have a tragedy or two or five.

The named ones are weird chickens like our bantam EE (Napoleon Chickenpart, because she's tiny and full of attitude)

But the ducks weren't part of the egg plan, and they're more or less just pets. I'm not that fond of duck meat, and I have no idea if I like duck eggs yet. They've all been named by the kids. 😬

Not looking forward to any of those tragedies at all.
I am still not over the loss of Katharina Duck on June 22nd this year, every time i am digging in the garden i somehow expect her to come and search for wiggly worms…

On the contrary! Duck eggs are much more delicious than chicken eggs. I did a fair comparison between eggs from the neighbors happy chickens and my ducks and though the chicken eggs were much better than store-bough, they didn't stand a chance against the duck eggs. The yolk is much larger, which makes boiled eggs more delicious. Scrambled duck-eggs stay juicer and don't turn into crumbles so easy. - Well one disadvantage is that it is more difficult to pan-fry duck-eggs if you want a sunny-side up. The whites stand taller in the pan that those from chicken-eggs, so you need to be really, really patient or you end up with black-bottom sunny-side up mess.
Only thing is, that duck eggs contain more Selenium than Chicken eggs, so when they come back out, they just stink… 👃🏻
