*grumbles before trying to get a couple more hours of sleep before work*

Daughter hit a raccoon with my car. Raccoon died, but brought the car with it. It somehow managed to get something in my cooling system borked, which made all the coolant come out, which caused the car to shut down.

Car is sitting on the side of the road almost two hours from here and will be towed to town to figure out if it's worth repairing. I slept less than three hour so far today, and need to leave for work in less than three more.

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Had a weather related meltdown yesterday, Sunday was comfortable warm but early Monday morning the wind picked up and the temperature began to count down… It was actually colder at noon than at 8am!
This kind of weather is giving me all kinds of issues, from migraines to aching knees, i'm tired the whole day…

All of the sudden on Sunday evening, while i was sitting at the pond the Mallards started to quack loudly, with the Ducknagers joining gladly - they love their grown-up voices…🙉
Anyways, i looked to the sky and there was a pair of Mallards flying south, then turning and finally landing on the pond. They were adults, at leas from last year. They stayed over night, but were already gone Monday morning. So the Mallards are currently flying south…
Here is a video of the Mallards, playing around with the adult pair:
This made me think: If this year's Mallards don't fly south but decide to stay here, should i prepare something for them? At the moment they sleep on that floating island in the pond, but, first that island offers zero protection against the wind and the weather and second the pond will freeze over thick enough for predators to walk on the ice…
Has anybody had wild Mallards around during the winter?
I am a bit concerned for them.

Our mallards don't migrate, perfect temperature here, but I have noticed they best in the tree hollows up high. Maybe some big boxes up in the trees?

Sounds to me like your Mallards have decided to go domestic since they haven't flown off yet.
