Hello everyone!! I have been on backyardchickens since August 2021 and only just found Quack Shack. What have I been missing? I love the humour!

@ruthhope the first Muscovy drake I adopted came from the neighbors across the river and he was domesticated. They just let the ducks and chickens and pigeons out for the predators to snatch up and 2 drakes and a female made it to the river. The female was killed shortly after but the 2 drakes would fly up and down the river it was a beautiful sight, Also one of my drakes that hatched here flew over the fence and down to the river thank goodness he didn't make it clear to the river and I was able to walk him home. Of course the young drake and the 2 that were at the river didn't have the weight my Muscovy drake has who has never tried to fly, he is too lazy. So I do think Domesticated can fly until they get some years on them then they get too heavy.

My two agile drakes, O Pato and Butter, might possibly fly down hill. Daffy is way too lazy: he likes to sit with me on the back steps and be cooched for hours. If I get distracted and stopp cooching him he gives me a give peck to remind me he is there!!! My pekin drake, Pingy Wingy, flies down the back steps, He is thin and light [he's special needs and I don't think was able to feed himself adequately when he was small resulting in growth stunting]. But he thinks he is a muscovy and is very agile, probably the most agile of all my drakes. He quickly and easily jumps up to the high roost in my duck house. But he, as all pekins, has no lift to gain height when flying.

Ping needs to be agile as he annoys the heck out of the muscovy by shouting loudly in their faces, telling the world he is alive, here and the boss. Once he starts jabbing the muscovy on their chests, they attack and he has to flee double quick.

You are correct! - Ryobi doesn't have a coffee maker! How dare!
But they have a Radio, Fans, Floodlights, fklashlights, blowers, suckers, even a post-driver for their system.
And »i don't drink coffee, i take tea my dear…«

While i was living in Houston, one of my neighbors had a couple of chickens, no rooster, and i really enjoyed watching them running around in the backyard. Sadly the HoA was tipped off by a jerk and they had to go. 😶

The upshot is that she has to get a permit [$500!!!] and have her facilities inspected to check it is hygienic and appropriately set back from her house and her neighbors, and she must get rid of the roo. Several of us who have back yard flocks have helped her with $20 donations towards her permit. None of the other chicken owners have permits. And we are in the land of the free!!! It was easier when I was in the UK.
