I lost one of my Cochin bantam hens today to a hawk. I was cleaning the coop and heard the flock really upset and heard the sound of wings flapping. All my ducks and goose were in the small area feeding area screaming their heads off my chickens were hiding in different places. I couldn't see who was missing till they went in for the night. Miss Kitty was such a sweetheart I will sure miss her.

I am so sorry to read this! Poor Miss Kitty!
It always hits the birds we love most. 😥
Do you have any idea what kind of hawk attacked? - The crows here have a very firm grip on the smaller species like the red tailed/shouldered hawk. On the other hand i don't trust them when there are ducklings around and i don't know if crows can be trusted with bantam chickens either… 🤔
Rest in piece little Miss Kitty! 😟

Okay y’all I have great news This morning when I opened the coop there sat Miss Kitty on the roost I couldn’t hardly believe it. I counted 14 chickens every time I went in then I’d go out and look all around for her. Only place I can think she could have been is behind the shavings bales. And that’s a tiny squeeze. As terrified as everyone was I could see her hiding behind them. But to not come out before lock up is strange. But anyway everyone is accounted for.
Hillbilly the crows have been active this last week. They chase them when they are flying high above but they don’t come down around the homestead. The hawk will be back I just hope the wake up call made everyone more aware of the dangers.
