Okay y’all I have great news This morning when I opened the coop there sat Miss Kitty on the roost I couldn’t hardly believe it. I counted 14 chickens every time I went in then I’d go out and look all around for her. Only place I can think she could have been is behind the shavings bales. And that’s a tiny squeeze. As terrified as everyone was I could see her hiding behind them. But to not come out before lock up is strange. But anyway everyone is accounted for.
Hillbilly the crows have been active this last week. They chase them when they are flying high above but they don’t come down around the homestead. The hawk will be back I just hope the wake up call made everyone more aware of the dangers.
Sorry for my late answer, PomPom Duck and my job kept me busy until now. - Pompom is now outside, after being forced to swallow an antibiotics tablet…

That is the greatest news of the day! Miss Kitty survived! I can imagine how glad you felt!
The little lady deserves some mealworms and single spank on her fluffy butt: First one for finding such an ingenious hide-out, the second one for making her owner's heart so heavy.

In regards to the crows and the hawk: I agreed with the crows that there is always something to eat for them here (cracked corn) and in exchange they keep the hawks away, even from close to the pond, house, duck-house, etc.
That agreement has worked out well so far. This morning a new hawk tried to set up shop on a high tree overlooking the pond. What she/he didn't knew was that the crows intend to set up shop in the surrounding trees… Hawk zero, crows one (at least).
