Oh, on another note, I've been gathering duck eggs to try again. Strangely, there were six in the coop this morning. And I only have five females!

Muscovy have been busy too, but I've been leaving their eggs so they go broody.
I would leave the dux eggs for the Muscovy hens too, i have heart that Muscovy™ incubators are the most reliable and technologically advanced. They even include an active defense system for the eggs and the ducklings.

And it happened to me too in the past: Three hens and four eggs in the morning and there were three eggs the morning before. I assume one duck laid an egg late in the afternoon/early evening and another one in the morning.

Your just jealous of the very rare and endangered blurry ducklings produced only by my magic incubator.
The truth is, that these ducklings are not so rare and not so endangered! They are just very difficult to see out in the wild. And inside of humon's houses they're often mixed up with dust bunnies…

The problem with letting the scovies hatch them is if their own eggs are mixed in with the 'regular' duck eggs, they'll get abandoned due to the difference in incubation length. Duck eggs are 28 days and scovies are 35.

Hmmm, that might be it. I got four eggs yesterday, so maybe someone was 'holding out'. Or they went back to the coop and laid one during the day and I didn't notice when putting them to bed (because duck wrangling is really annoying!). Once I manage to get them in, I just close the door as quickly as possible!

Just add the dux eggs a week later during Mrs. Muscovite's lunch break… So they would hatch all around the same day… (?)

I could try that. Except one of the ducks has decided she was going to take care of the scovie eggs!!!

I was doing some spot cleaning and saw something in the nest cave. Our Magpie must have been upset with me taking her eggs! I may move her back to her own coop with actual duck eggs to have fun with. She hatched some out last year and was a great mom.

Happy Post-Sunday to Everybody!

You have Magpie Ducks too? - I got five little Magpie babies in 2019, sadly only two of them are left, Pompom and Pinball Duck. Since 2020 Pinball has hatched ducklings every year and this year i caught her standing with her eyes closed in front of last years nesting site (under the garage roof) and squacking like she had baby-ducks again. She clearly remembered last years babies…

Funny you should ask! I only had one left, but today I saw an ad for a poor single Magpie duckling and decided that I should get it for my daughter. This is one Easter duckling that won't be dumped!
