Greetings.

There are forest fires less than 30 km from here, and the air is smoky (although I like the smell, I'd rather it was from a contained blaze). Tons of lakes and rivers and creeks and ponds between us and the fires though, so for now I'm only worried about the effects of the smoke on the birds.
does the fire have to burn uphill to you? It moves very fast that way. Hope it doesn't get too close.

Hmmm, actually it would. I live in the hills.

It started on an island and although it jumped to the mainland I think is being contained. And the winds seem to have changed directions again, I'm not smelling it as badly anymore. Seems to be worse in the mornings (fire started Sunday).

Listen to this we have been having a thick haze over our mountains and they are saying it is from the fires in Canada. we live mid-USA

Are they getting them under control? a friend that lives in Alberta said the fires have been deliberately set.
I have no idea about the ones in Alberta, or really most of the others. I tend to not look at the news if I can help it. @New duck mommy 2021 would know more about those ones.

Send me feed money :lau
The proof: More is better!
More feed money, more duck food, more ducks -> better life!

But i have to agree, that any kind of food has become insanely expensive! - If you have some land, plant Kale for the Ducks, Chickens, Geese, Turkeys,… You can shred the whole plant, stuff it into zip-lock bags and keep it in the freezer for the winter. Your birbs will be so happy! And it saves feed money.

I would be more worried about the effects of the smoke on your grand-daughter, daughter and you! Smoke inhalation can cause irritation of the respiratory tract including pneumonia and embolie (liquid in the lungs). What are the officials lying?

Here's the ducklings hatched so far as of this morning; six in this nest, and at least one in the other (momma wouldn't get off!):

Congratulations! - Still two ducklings with Buffzilla.
And i am mad as hell that i cannot show-off my little fluffballs! They haven't fixed my internet, but 2morrow i need to pick up some prescriptions at and the Underground Samich shop has fiber and open WiFi…

Close up of the most adorable little fluffball! 😍

I wish i could touch Buffzillas fluffballs! - She trusts me more than any Momma Duck before, this afternoon i set up a kindergarden for her ducklings: A shallow plastic box as swimming pool, crushed pellets, cat-food and meal-worms in another container, water and food for Momma Duck.
Everybody was looking at what i was doing and when i was finished, the ducklings hopped into the water, even had their first zoomies, pooped in the pool, drank the poop-water, stepped with their wet webbies into the food, from there into the drinking water and then sat down in Mommas food-bowl. Adorable!
