I had a drake like. I was constantly chasing him off my Muscovy girls, all the while the scovie drakes doing nothing.

And it's not like he didn't have females of his own! Considering eight out of my thirteen ducklings are blue (his colour), he was breeding them, too!!!
A Mallard derived drake with a 'scovie? - How does that even work? Even Ralphie Dux, my Black Swedish drake is tiny in comparison to a Muscovy duck…

You should come over here when its Turkey season.
They all know that i am not into hunting - except for raccoons, two this weekend…
Gobble Gobble!
My friend used to eat them, Ground Hogs, Possum and anything else just about that moved. Squirrels and turtles too. I would just about gag when he would tell me the stories of everything they ate growing up. lol

Where there is a will there is a way. I saw him climb on her back trying to do the deed and she was happy to let him. She is not massive and is quite a bit smaller than my other Muscovy Hen. She had mud all over her back from him and she was the only one I saw that he managed to get on. My Call drakes are not show quality and seem to be a little bit bigger than a couple of the other ones I have. That might of helped him. This baby on the other hand is smaller and the only Black Swedish I have in the pen is a Call duck. So it had to mate with a smaller Muscovy or a larger Khaki Campbell or a huge Rouen which I saw no evidence at all of that.

The hens are half the size of the drakes, about the same size as a large 'regular' duck. And he was a Pekin mix.

I'm wondering if any of the babies are going to end up being mules (or rather, hinnies).

I already have a huge female Mule and had 2 males that I had to rehome as they were hard on my Hens. It was from my massive Muscovy Drake and my Rouen Hen. I had to finish hatching them out myself as my Mallard left the nest after hatching out her babies. I gathered up the eggs and finished the last week of hatching to save them. They took 35 days to hatch at the time. She gave up after 28 days with her babies. I now figure this Black Swedish duckling that hatched out is a Hinnie but probably a male so I might rehome it if it is. The only Black Swedish Drake in the pen is a Call Duck and I only saw it with my Muscovy is what I am basing it on. It hatched out at 29 days but Calls hatch out earlier is what I read so that could be why it was early. If yours are altogether in the pen it is quite possible. People claim they don't intermix that often but mine have had no problem with doing it.

Are the fires still going on up there or has the rain helped any to stop them. We are getting a steady rain here where I am in Ohio today and it will rain most of this week which is a blessing to clear out our air. I pray that your fires will all go out soon.
Lucky you! - We get rain just overnight and tomorrow (Monday) and that's it for us here.
From Tuesday on we will have hot and humid weather, except for the occasional thunderstorms - which usually happen to be stopped by my hill before reaching my land. :th
