Waitasec!? - The Mallard chased the dog?! 😲
I'd hire that Mallard on the spot to teach my ducks how to chase dogs! Imagine, soon 60 ducks chasing one singe dog. Fido would likely have a heart attack…
I have issues with the dogs of two of my neighbors and decided to use the less prefferable triple "S" method.
Mine have been raised with my own two dogs and the dogs have been trained to never touch them. I think that gave my Mallard the mindset of thinking a dog could never hurt her. I was shocked when my neighbor told me it was chasing the dog that ate the six chickens. Full grown ones too!

Friends, i need an advise: Does this young drake needs to be wrapped to correct his flight feathers?

He is the oldest and strongest one of the Incubator-Gang and i am not looking forward to try and wrap him. It'll cost me several body parts, he is very sensitive and yells when i touch his growing feathers...

When one of mine had its feathers growing in they stuck out and I was concerned I would need to do something but after growing in they were fine. Good luck with yours.
What do you wrap them with? I have a Call Drake that I got that already had Angel Wing and it is in a molt but the wing has grown back in sticking out really bad. I am glad that it will never be able to fly off but hate that the wing is sticking out so badly. What to do I wonder???

I know that wild Mallards can be really mean, they have learned to defend themselves. My drakes found that out the hard way several times when they got beaten up by a Mallard duck ½ their size.

DUCK-TAPE! :gig

Just kidding!

You can buy something that is called VetWrap (expensive) or you can visit the harmacy of your choice and buy 1st aid wrap (dirt-cheap).
Its basically a stretchy more or less sticky tape that you wrap around the bird's body to gently push those feathers towards the body. Ralphie Dux has some feathers grown out sideways and once the feathers have fully grown, it cannot be corrected.

I use a leg cut off cheap leggings pulled over the head. Any body I wrapped was out in 5 minutes.

Thank you for letting me know as the feathers are all the way out now. I will just clip them to make it more comfortable. It doesn't seem to bother it at all, it just looks sort of crazy.
