Such pretty Ducks!!!
We had rain and snow flurries all day yesterday and the pen was a slippery mess today. I hate it when it gets gooey even though it has a sand base. Good luck tomorrow with yours. All this snow will melt overnight and I shudder to think what it will look like tomorrow... mud, more mud and some additional mud![]()
Sometime in Jan-Feb we will probably get to the point when there are 2-3 weeks of freezing temps all over the day - that might be somewhat trickier. In a pinch I can carry hot water from the house but I'm sure that will get old very very quickly. So I'm looking for a way to safely heat a basin or two, probably with a submergible low-wattage electric heater.

Right now, I'm only letting them out for a few hours a day when it's relatively nice. My experience with the dumb-dumb that got himself so chilled he nearly died in the freezing rain have made me rethink how they will cared for this winter.
I don't feed or water in the coop. For exactly that reason!Let them out of the coop? I figure they have their food and water inside - how does that work out, especially in the winter? I'm afraid of the extra moisture / general mess.
I totally agree. God seems to put us at the right time and place at times whether it be in person or just through a text or email. They were raised (before coming to us) by a lady who took very very good care of them. She's also a fellow cancer survivor. We still keep in touch. Sometimes good things happen so randomly.
