Had the re-read that. Though you meant -19 and Spring. I was going to ask if your butt was the only thing that got landed on! :lau

We've got a couple of nice days ahead, above (barely) freezing. But it drops to -20 overnight on Friday. This yoyo weather is driving me nuts!
I can understand the confusion, -19° is not - 19° but that space may be difficult to see on small handheld devices. One of the advantages of the Fahrenheit temperature scale that is often used to substantiate its advantage is than in "normal" life you won't encounter negative temperatures. So to avoid any confusion in the future i shall use the Kelvin scale in the future, so on Monday it was - 292.15K. 😜
Is it called yo-yo-weather in Canada? - Here in the USA its called roller-coaster-weather. The meaning is the same, we get a cold snap on Saturday night with 268K and on Sunday we are back to 286K. After that weekend it looks like we're mostly done with winter, during some nights in March we will will drop down to ~273K but that's not really an issue for potatoes, cabbage, kale & co.
Have i p*ssed off everybody now?

I had never heard of this DMSO until recently. My dog injured his tail and my vet gave me a bottle of that stuff to spray on him. I tried to do some reading about it.. Because it sounded like real potent stuff. The doctor said it would penetrate all the way to the bone.
I was a little concerned about getting it on myself.. Which is hard not to do when you're putting medicine on a pet That gets in your bed.
I don't know about that stuff sounds kind of scary to me. I don't think I'd want to inhale it. I read that anything that comes in contact with and then gets on. You goes directly into your bloodstream.?!
DMSO is is used as a »carrier substance« or »penetrator«, meaning that it can easily penetrate the skin and other membranes without damaging them and carry other substances with it.
The two things that makes me use this stuff with great care are:
  1. It contains sulfur, so its de-composition products will also contain sulfur and sulfur-organics often have a very strong odor and might be harmful.
  2. Wikipedia: »Early clinical trials with DMSO were stopped because of questions about its safety, especially its ability to harm the eye.«

The stuff I have is odorless in the bottle. But I guess one of the side effects of using that stuff is it supposedly makes you smell like garlic.
I guess it's not the DMSO itself. That smells it comes out smelling like that in your skin or something? All i know is it STANKS. And I don't think it smells like garlic. It's like a nasty wet grass smell to me. And now my whole house smells like it. 🤢
As written before, DSMO is metabolized by your body and the resulting compounds have a strong odor. Two ways to get rid of the smell in your house:
  1. Boil lemon/lime/orange peels in hot water in an open pot. The essential oils will bind to the DSMO, making the resulting compound too heavy to be smelled.
  2. Turn the AC-fan on to circulate the air, evacuate the house and place an an ozone generator close to the main air-intake. Let that run for about an hour, then open all windows for 10-15 minutes to get rid of the remaining ozone. - This works for almost all odors, ozone [O3] is very aggressive and attacks all organic compounds.
As i wrote, as teenagers we were bedazzled by chemistry and experimented with sulfur-organic components a lot. Once we got kicked out of public-transportation in the middle of nowhere due to our strong body-odor…

Nope, no hand-held devices for me. Just bad eyes and a refusal to wear glasses! :lau

And no, I call it that myself, although others might as well. I've also used roller-coaster to describe the weather, but usually reserve that for my emotional state. ;)

Thanks!

Now. How can i properly dispose of the rest of this bottle? I'm a little too freaked out about it to used it anymore.. besides i can't handle the stench.

i know someone who eats a LOT of garlic and always smells like it. should we abolish garlic too?
why toss a good medicine from the vet?
does your dog smell bad or did you use it on yourself and you stink now?

And what about stuff like icy hot and bengay? they penetrate through the skin does that make them scarey?
