that’s so crazy that it’s that hot and you are in canada 🇨🇦
it’s hot here too but my 6 week olds are doing great in the shade with a pool all day . my 6 day olds are of course still inside . i wonder if the world is upside down this week and canada is hotter than maryland now . we have mid 90’s with humidity ( random t storms on the way)
Summers here are hot and humid. Thankfully, this latest heat wave broke today, but it's raining for the next few days.

Going to go pick up some temporary fencing so I can make some enclosures.

I have a friend up here that I met through the emus, and he keeps ostriches. Now he has money money, so he can heat them through the winter with no problems, which is the reason I won't keep them - they have to be fully heated through winter here.

But, his birds started laying and he didn't have his incubators ready. And the eggs incubate at the same temperature as emus, and I thought, why not hatch some ostriches? So I did, haha. They went back to him a couple days ago. But they are such neat babies, very curious and friendly.

And big. This was when this one was a day old and just fluffed up:

I have a carport that has rafters in it. I put bird netting in the top of them to keep wild birds from building their nests. I discovered a little bit ago where some house finches decided to still build even though the netting was to keep them out. They have actually cooked in the nest due to our extreme temperatures. I felt bad when I just now saw them. This is one of the hottest Junes I can ever remember here in Ohio. I have never had anything like that ever happen before. Also there is no water anywhere for them to get a drink. I keep water for my birds at all times but not for the wild ones because we have had bird flu in our state and I never wanted to encourage them to hang around.

ever since i added a black duck to the flock, my crows ( i have been feeding for 3 years) have gotten much much closer . they hang out very close to me and the ducks now. and we have seen very few hawks . View attachment 3868969View attachment 3868970
I have befriended with the local murder of crows here during the last years, but: After they have killed at least four ducklings last year i am keeping them at a distance, especially when there are little ones around.
As intelligent as they are, they seem to understand that they are currently only welcome when the dux is inside…

how old were the ducklings? the only ones i have outside are six weeks old and they are in a pen with a net top to prevent hawks / crows but honestly, I think they are probably bigger than the crows would attack.

Trudy is obsessed with the 3 ducklings that i got to keep Frankie gosling company. frankie has been gone for almost 2 weeks now but Trudy has been faithfully watching the 3 friends as they are in an integration pen during the day time. i have half a mind to let these 3 live with Charlie and Trudy as a little duck duck goose kind of family. The goose house I have currently is 24 ft.² which is 12 ft.² for each of my two geese. They don’t need quite that much. I think this trio of ducks could fit comfortably and it’s only for nighttime. it’s one drake and 2 hens. I do wonder how the Drake will get along with Charlie Gander when he matures though. And of course he’ll only have two females with him and he really needs more. There will be 15 of them on the other side of the fence so maybe these are just pipe dreams.? Or maybe try it and wait and see, and if there is a problem, I can just let the Drake go on the other side of the fence with the huge harem of lady dux?

I would give it a try. It might work out just fine.

i think i will wait until this heat wave breaks. the 6 week olds still get their mana pro ducklings starter grower food and water and overnight they sleep inside my ducky hospital garage addition room . I feel like they still need their food and water overnight for at least another week. also the starter feed is expensive and my Charlie Gander loves it he will gobble it all up if I put it out there lol. This really is a good idea because my duck house won’t be overcrowded as it stands presently I am one duck over the 4 ft.² each and plan to add the two one week olds eventually. mind you I do have six ducks going on nine years old and would be surprised if I don’t lose any in the coming months seeing as at least one has been sickly for quite some time

Our heat wave is not going to be quite as bad today but it is already 78 outside at 7:36 am. Compared to 96 though that's a cold front, lol. It will only be in the 80's for most of this week but then next Saturday we are supposed to hit the 90's again. Good luck with your decision. The Geese sure are pretty and so are the ducks.
