Could have been or early stages of niacin deficiency.Peas give some niacin but I am not sure anyone has figured out how many peas in a day are giving them the 10 mg they are suppose to get.
Good to hear whatever it was the duckling recovered.
That would surprise me because they are really well fed... A kilo of peas per day has been shared between the 2 flocks (18 ducks) for weeks now to support summer stress and their factory food (half of what they get, the other part is mixed grains) is also reinforced by vitamins and minerals.

In any case, we're glad she's fine. The previous mobile hospital patient a month or so ago was an adult duck with a sudden hole in her flipper. Sprayed with vet spray, given the same vit-min-peas combination as in this round, was also back to regular behavior in the morning.

The extreme heat we are having here in Ohio is soaking up any moisture we can get which is little. The ducks love it when I spray them off and I bought extra shading in the form of camo netting that I have attached to my regular netting on top of parts of the pen for them. I have been very fortunate not to have lost any yet this year. I start driving the school bus next week and can hardly wait to see how hot it will be for us then. Hopefully we will not all melt.
Most of my ducks love to be sprayed, with the exception of the runner ducks. They hate it and run away as quickly as they can. No idea why. Sunny's ducknagers love it and try to snatch the water droplets out of the air.

Call ducks Luv showers. Cayugas, that's a big Nope for them. They become runner dux at the sight of a sprayer.

my Cayuga doesn’t mind it, and my runners don’t run away either. But, one of my pekins and 2 white layers do!! i also have a cayuga/runner mix duck who loves it! lol it must depend on each ducks personality?

i bought epsom salt poultice a while back just in case anyone ever gets bumblefoot…
and i just realized i can also use it for a sprain, and Chubbs (sprained I think) ankle is swollen and a little blue. so i applied some and wrapped it.
