Mucked out the 2 duck houses today and restocked nice dry straw. It has been a while. Think DEEP bedding. It's unfortunate that ducks don't tend to stir up their straw like chickens would but rather trample and compress it.

It's funny how differently the ducks reacted. The young crew suddenly had a pile of old straw at the entrance to their house and they were like hmmm this looks suspicious... They would not go in. Only when one of them finally decided to try, and she vanished inside and there were no cries of anguish did the others decide to follow her.

Whereas the old crew was like OH MY a pile of straw YIPPIEE !! (you know how they start chatting excitedly when they find something interesting) and they were instantly all over it exploring and digging for possible worms and had no problems whatsoever getting inside for the night.

I put new shavings in all of my ducks houses and they too were having a real discussion about it. They loved it but had to talk about it for hours, they are so amusing.

Funny thing is, I didn't even notice the snow! :lau

What caught my attention was the sunlight in the trees.
Yes, the beautiful evening light was my reason for taking the photo.

Yesterday I forgot to check the weather forecast (happens super rarely) and boom, -8 C. I'm sure for Canadians this is a routine event but over here, not so much. Here we see the young ducks in a dilemma - should we get out or would it be better to just stay in the house today?
