Sooo ... is the pesticide flammable? :p
Actually yes, permethrin is flammable!
But i will use that sprayer - it is old and in no good shape (Harbor Freight Quality) - to spray that mixture of Diesel and Gas onto the driveway before throwing lit match…
We got 15cm (½ foot!) of wet, heavy and sticky snow today. With the forecasted overnight temp of -13°(8.6F) that will become solid ice by tomorrow. And i am in too much pain to clear the driveway again. And its still snowing here.
Oh i love global warming! 😈

We don't have the snow yet but it is coming. It is brutal out. I went ahead and ordered 2 Wood Ducks from Mallard Lane Farms in Tennessee. With Monday being a Holiday their site says they do not ship on those weeks and then I wanted them pinioned so that would take another 2-4 week delay for them to fully heal. Well, the delays have backfired on me and she said they will ship out this Tuesday! I will let you know how they survive with all of this crazy cold artic weather we are having. It will be at least -9 F on Wednesday morning when they might be arriving. She had some already pinioned and is shipping on Tuesday regardless of Monday being a Holiday, she said it was cold there too so hopefully since they are fully grown all will go well for me and them.
I think the Woodies will be warm enough. I would be worried if you can drive to the post-office on Wednesday/Thursday morning to pick them up.
Or that the USPS truck will get stuck somewhere…
But grown up ducks can survive for a while without water and food.

It hit here yesterday, but I was prepared (sort of). I watch the weather forecast continuously, and had already made plans for the horribleness that Saturday was to be. Shovelled several times, put fresh hay in the coops (and in one case, around it) due to not having enough straw, I also dragged myself out to clean up the plow 💩 at the end of the driveway so it wouldn't freeze into a solid mass overnight.

See, it snowed here all day, on top of it going slightly above freezing at one point. So it was heavy and wet. Not a big deal, right? I could have waited a bit, right? NOPE! Because the temperatures dropped 20 degrees C overnight!!! That is roughly 30 degrees F. In a matter of hours. Thus why I made sure everyone was bundled up in fresh dry stuff.

This cold snap will be here until Wednesday.
We have five cold nights ahead, won't get above Freezing until Thursday afternoon. And then another icy night.
The Dux got ½ bale of fresh straw into their castle.

Can't you ask them to hold off until the cold snap is done??
I told them my concerns and they said it is cold there also and that all should be fine. At least they are fully feathered and adult birds so that should help some. My others outside seem to be doing just fine so far but Wednesday morning will be the real test. I hope that all of yours are well along with everyone else's.

I just messaged the lady that has my Wood Ducks. It is snowing here with icy roads so I will see if she will delay my delivery.
She said she will ship them next Monday the 27th. I am sooooo happy about that. She said the cold would not hurt them but if we have bad roads that could cause delays. It will be 10 below 0 F and I don't think that is good for any animals to be shipped in myself. Miss Lydia agrees on that one.
