Ghosty
Crowing
Mine were consistently brown as pullets, but some of them lightened up like yours by the next summer.

I had 16 SG's, down to 11. They seem to have a variety of personalities. Some are dominant, some aren't. A few of them like to come visit me, and used to sit on my lap more, but all are pretty independent, and generally prefer not to be held. They are very sweet birds, though, and great free rangers, with huge eggs from my best layers. Thanks for the feedback, both of you! I second the sporadic speckling (with one of my RRs).
I really love the laid back demeanor that the SGs seem to have. The downside is that she seems to get picked on by the RRs and BRs, even though she's the same size and nearly half their age!
Looks like I have more remedial integration training for the other hens in my future!![]()
The SG's I have seen have dark legs by 14 weeks.I am going to be adding the 7 Sapphire Gems to my older flock this weekend. The Gems are going to be 14 weeks old, so I want tehm in the main coop for the winter. My older flock of birds is a mix of 2, 3 and 4 year old birds.
I actually have 5 Sapphire Gems and 2 Easter Eggers. All bought at the same time. However, they all look alike except that 2 have dark grey legs and the rest have normal yellow chicken legs. I am assuming that the EE are the 2 with dark legs- does this sound right?
Sound like gems to me. Some of mine have more white in their legs as they have gotten older.OK, I looked at the legs of my Gems, they are black legs with black on top of the feet, but yellow down the sides and the bottom of the feet are yellow. 2 birds have black feet and black legs.
One of the Gems squatted for me yesterday. Their combs are starting to turn red.
