~The Sapphire Gem~ A Breed's Chat Thread

Pics
I have 2 Sapphire Gems. Yesterday Ruby went broody for the first time. I’m not able to got the chick route right now so will have to break her. She stayed out of the box quite awhile today but is now back in. I’m going out in a minute to put her in broody jail. She’ll have company as one of my 3 black australorps also went broody yesterday. AND my Lily (who is a mutt) is maybe coming off broody today. She’s stayed out of the boxes so far today.

Both Ruby and Merry (the BA) have only been laying a month or so. I’ve not had more than one hen broody at a time!

Just wondering for those of you who have this breed, do they like to fly? Looking to add new chickens and these look interesting but have had trouble with other breeds flying out of the coop. Looking for something that tends not to do that.

Hello! Violet, our 20 week old Sapphire Gem, has not laid an egg yet. Her coop mates (1 white leghorn, and 2 red sexlinks) started laying last week. Nothing to worry about, right? Thanks!

Just happen on this thread, yours is probably a Blue Wyandotte ... The comb looks to be a "rose" whereas the Sapphire has a single, from what I've seen. She is pretty.

I wonder if she has blue red laced in her because she has streaks of red. I thought it was dried blood at first.

This is what you get when breed a Sapphire Gem hen with a Splash Maran rooster.

Out of my 4 girls, my SG is the least likely to jump up and catch air at all. Besides her, I have 2 Easter eggers and a buff Orpington

My SG is laying eggs very consistently now. Much larger than the other RRs, BRs, and BO who are much more mature than her.

The most interesting thing is that she's laying different colored eggs. I know that they are hers for sure, because I've actually caught her laying them, and the Easter Egger she houses with hasn't started laying yet.

Has anyone else seen this kind of thing in young chickens?
