The violence in Juarez hit home today

We aren't holding our breath.

If anyone loves the Mexican people it is me. I have a great number of patients who speeak no English. I've traveled to Tijuana. Hermosillo, Guaymas and twice to Cancun and various parts of the Yucatan, I'm feeling sorry for them because of the corruption in their government and in their police departments, it goes from bottom to top. The violence is spreading north over the border, especially in AZ, NM & TX.... I don't hear much about the CA border, but I"m imagining it is the same.

I live in the drug capital of my state.
When they busted some dealers in NH recently the dealers told the cops that their suppliers are in my city.
And the crime rate here has recently escalated as well. Three girls were recently car jacked. Luckily one was smart enough to quietly dial 911 and the state police tracked them and caught the guy. The incidences of rape have jumped. And just yesterday a 20 year old "homeless" man was arrested for child rape. The poor kid is my daughters age!
During the city block party last year there was a shooting during the fireworks. I dont think they are going to have the party this year do to funding. But even if they do I am not taking my daughter.
They just replaced the equipment at the playground down the street. Just a year after finding a body in the river that runs through the park with gunshot wounds. Last year we were finding bullet casings. I can only imagine what this year will bring

When I was just starting to drive my dad told me "If you are ever driving through Brockton. Roll up your windows. Lock your doors. And make sure you can see the bottom of the rear tires of the car in front of you. I dont care if you dont have air conditioning." Several years later a boy friend told me the same thing.
I now do this when I am driving through my own neighborhood and city.

Just a few years ago everyone in the neighborhood left their front doors unlocked and windows wide open when the weather was warm.
Not anymore. I even lock the house during the day when we are home.
I am lucky that we have the dog. He makes his presence known. But he is also getting older. I have to admit I am considering adopting a AmStaff or Pit just for "looks" since most of those dogs are big babies.
My coop and run are getting padlocks as well.

The ones causing the issues here, up North are the same ones you are all having issues with. If they get out of TX, NM and AZ they head here for relative "safety" then reek havoc and raise the crime levels here.

edited to add - I am suddenly very glad we didnt move into the in-laws place in Cypress TX like they wanted us to. They went to Australia for nearly 10 years and offered us the house. We declined. VERY happy we did now.

My company opened a branch in El Paso to take advantage of the
free trade zone between Juarez and EP. The building has been
broken into 5 times and everyone quit. Now we have several large
jobs in Juarez but no one to do them. We can't drive our work vans
accross the border due to regulations so we would need to ship our
tools then cross on foot and rent a car. It's ridiculous. If my Spanish
was a little better I'd consider flying down for a few months and
taking care of those jobs. The upper management would compensate
me nicely.

The Mexican issue is something I've lost all faith in our government for.
Politics, greed, and who knows what else are influencing things.
It's a lot worse than most people know. Those drug cartels are armed
and even have training camps. They make Islamic terrorists look like
third graders. I don't understand what the US politicians are thinking.
We are supporting Mexico now anyways. Why not just send in
100,000 troops and get things done? Seal the border or do in Mexico
what we have done so well in Iraq.

this is an outrage - and so sad all at the same time. I'm sorry for those of you that have to endure this fear each and every day given you live here in the US and the border issues are spewing into your lives.

Its not on the news because "they" dont want it on the news. This is the part of the illegal aliens that people DONT see and what the gov't doesnt want you to see, and its the part that SHOULD be seen the most. It's horrifying and my stomach just turns at the thought of having to endure such fears each and every day for all of you that live in terror. Its no better either in places where there is heavy crime and no illegal aliens however, D.C., Philly, Richmond, etc... even in little small rural communities the gangs are finding their way in - even here where I am and its terrifying to me.

TV reporters, newspapers, and people in the communities should be reporting these incidents so that everyone else in the US knows whats transpiring. They dont out of fear - and thats terrible.

The local news channels have it on all the time, but the national ignores it. If you go to KVIA.COM, it is the most popular station in Hell Paso, you can read a lot of what is going on here.

I don't know if I dare look. There is so much that I don't miss about that place. I've been catching up with a lot of my old friends via Facebook and I've realized that 99% of them don't live down there anymore either. All the ones that could get out, did.

All the violence is related to drugs. The primary drug is pot. Pot is not dangerous. it's the people that make it illegal that are dangerous. If they legalized pot there would be no market for the illegal trade. The violence would stop. The US could grow their own under controlled conditions. The govt would make billions in taxes. It would be a win win situation. Talk about stuck on stupid.

Not all of the violence is drug related. El Paso has been a dangerous city for a long time. This is not a "legalize it" issue. This is far more complicated than that.

I agree - its not about drugs at all - its about who has the power, the money and bragging rights. Human life means nothing. And - legalizing MJ will not make the other drugs any less dangerous nor any less illegal, but thats another story not to be talked about on here according to Nifty.
