Never get a pig as a pet. If you ever have one, you will never eat pork again. They are entirely too intelligent and personable. And willfull, and arrogant, and you get the picture.

ugh. Pork, not looking so good anymore..

I dunno...I have raised farm pigs for the freezer and have had pet potbellieds for years and I still like bacon and porkchops!

For me the difference is that the farm pigs get to be obnoxious and destructive. My pots have always been too lazy to be destructive. The farm hogs are raised the same as the pots...free range. But they reach a certain age and they will tear down a whole fence to get to chicken food or whatever. After replacing and repairing what they have destroyed it's off to the freezer. The up side is that I know they have lead a good life from start to finish. My adult daughter can't eat them though. She tried and it made her sick to even see the roast.

Where did you find pigs colored like that? They are beautiful. Are they pots or painted miniatures or what?
Redhen, Me thinks you could charge admission for that video! As long as the volume is on low.

I promise that i'll make a short video when i do bathe them though....

Love all the pig pics. My family has shown pigs for over 15 years and I have bred for show and freezer 12 of that, this is my first year to step out. My youngest son starts college June 7 and I am tired. Pigs are very smart and have such personalities. That is why I started breeding, It gave me a good reason to keep my gilts. We have taught them to play catch with a feed pan and play basketball(no hoops just lots of traveling), they also love to roll old bowling balls. I have never had a pot belly, but you might give them any kind of large ball and see if they will play with it. Ours would play for hours. They also liked to lay on them and roll off, probably sounds silly but we have had many good laughs.

We bathed ours all the time and trimmed hooves if necessary. I guess it would be funny to someone not doing it all the time. It can definately be a wet experience! Ours would weigh up to 280 and some of the breeding gilts 320. Its a lot of pig to lather up!
