My hen house is a raised playhouse, about 3 1/2 feet off the ground. I'd like to cut a trapdoor in the floor, with a ramp leading down to the area directly below. What's the minimum size, do you think, to make the hole? I'll have Partridge Chantecler and Ameraucana.

Thanks.

It would be *awfully*-much better to put the popdoor in the SIDE, and just extend the run area sideways and up a tad to allow you to have a ramp down from there. (The ramp can angle alongside the coop wall, so it needn't require you to extend the run area out more than 10" or so if space is limited).

Floor doors are just a bad idea all 'round. They don't work very well (you lose a lot of bedding) and most of all they take away a lot of valuable indoor floorspace, which you have so little of to begin with. I would really strongly urge you to figure out how to do a WALL door.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
