How do you all feel about this DE?

I only use it in the cracks and crevices of my coop sparingly when all of the chickens are out to play... It's the only DE available within a large radius, plus I use it to control slugs all of the time.

The reason I use is sparingly is the 'patented baits' and the fact that it is 78 percent DE. Would it be better to stop using it? I have had SEVERE problems with red mites and northern fowl mites before, and I would like to avoid that. All of my kids get Ivermectin Pour-On regularly now (I hate to use a preventative medication, but it just would keep coming back otherwise).

I finally have the lowdown on DE usage but am confused about the general methods of application that everyone uses. The bag says a hand spreader (whateer that is) or a bulbous applicator. Can I just sprinkle it on the floor of the coop and in the dirt/sand outside? Does anyone actually put it ON the chickens to control mites, etc? It is food grade.

I sprinkle it on floor, on roosts, in run, around my house, on the chickens.. I put it in their food and all the other animals food except the rabbit
