What is Your Favorite Christmas Dish? (PARTY!)

Pics
So whats your fav dishes @Sunshine_Chick
Well I am single & all my family is deceased so I really don't do holidays. For me they are just another day on the calendar, but I surely do enjoy reading & drooling over your dishes. I usually just have a good steak, baked sweet tater, asparagus, and a salad. Oh I also enjoy buying all the specialty cheeses & products at Aldi's. So, I treat myself to all the foods of the holidays.

I love Christmas :)

I have to watch A Christmas Story every year. It’s an absolute must lol.

As for music I enjoy pretty much all of them but Jingle Bell Rock and Baby it’s Cold Outside (with the original lyrics, by Dean Martin) are my favourites and I listen to them on repeat.

I doubt we will have snow for Christmas Day but you never know. Most likely rain. It’s supposed to snow tonight, then by Monday rain again. Last year we had snow on Boxing Day.

Now for the food!

My husband grew up with homemade pizza on Christmas Eve, and I grew up doing a sort of mini reveillion feast where we always made everyone’s favourites, potluck style. So now we do both!

Christmas Day is the traditional turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, Parker house rolls all from scratch. We usually do roasted veggies, Brussels sprouts with candied walnuts, sometimes a salad or asparagus as well. There is usually a vegan or vegetarian main option cause there is often at least one at our family gatherings, sometimes a few.

If we have a really big group we also do a ham but I don’t think we will this year, have to double check the numbers.

I love to bake. I’ve already started since I had a Christmas party to bring goodies to. But between the 21/22 and Christmas I will make:
Ginger snaps
Gingerbread men
Gingerbread cake (maybe not this year)
Sugar cookies
Shortbread
Parker house rolls
Cinnamon rolls (for Christmas morning)
Pumpkin or Apple pie (both if we have a lot of people coming over)
Butter tarts

My mom makes amazing caramels and I’ve started making peanut brittle as well.

I think that’s it? Maybe? We will all end up in a food coma by the end :lau

This thread has inspired me to bake something tonight or tomorrow morning for when my husband gets back from his work rotation away to get into the holiday spirit!
Wow - that's quite a great!

I have a confession : I hadn't ever watched A Christmas Story until about 5 years ago. And I didn't get it. But as it was on for 24 straight hours, it finally hit me. Now it's an annual must ( but my kids still don't like it.... Bah humbug

Soudns amazing! :drool

And you dry them yourself?
Something I need to try!

It's well worth making if you care to try the recipe! I've had visitors from East Germany who tell me it tastes very authentic to them. But that makes sense because Mr. Rockenwager is a German immigrant. ...whose baking has made him famous on 2 coasts here in the US.

No, no need to dry the fruit. I'm here in SoCal where really good quality dried fruits are everywhere this time of year. I do candy my own orange peel, tho, because the commercial ones -- when you can find them here; they're no longer very available -- tend to be very gloppy. Plus, the whole ones or slices are nice for enrobing in chocolate and the orange-flavored sugar syrup is wonderful in things like tea or over pancakes or keeping cake layers nice and moist.

My favorite holiday side is green bean casserole. A close second would be mashed potatoes and gravy. Green bean casserole is the bomb, though :drool

I like to wake up Christmas morning and get a hot cup of coffee and a sugar cookie or oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. Very relaxing! I'm always the first one up.

lol, 4+ different people say its there favorite!
Now I feel like I am missing out :gig

@Momplus1 and @007Sean would you like to join the party?

I'd LOVE to as I have so many pictures. All of my birds are from this year, so you might regret inviting me, hahaha! I am locking everyone up and filling feeders and waterers right now, but I'll be joining as soon as I get finished. I love this thread. Thanks @TheChiggens

Oops! This was posted in the wrong thread. I was having internet issues when I posted this. Just overlook me, please
