When Do you Turn on the Heat?

I haven't turned on any heat yet, but my hubby has. We can't sleep in the same room because our sleeping habits are so different. I sleep w/the window opened most nights, he sleeps w/the heat up! I don't turn on heat unless or until I'm cold. I did make a fire a couple of nights though because the basement was cold.

I am trying to hold out. I think we are giong into the 30's here tonight and its still off. It was 63 in here this morning. We shall see how tomorrow morning goes.

Heat? Like burning fossil fuels?

We heat exclusively with wood and our soapstone stove...

We do have a propane furnace in the basement as backup for if we are out of town a few days...

We will have a small fire every day or two with the temps in the 50's in the day and 30's at night.. Coals are hot 24x7 once the cold weather comes..

Nothing like coming in from working outside all day in subzero weather, to a 80 degree house .. Wood stove warmth feels soooo good......The house is always cold when you wake up in the AM, the kids huddle next to the stove and get dressed right in front of it to get warm... I always be sure the wood box is full before bed.. I do not enjoy going out to get firewood in the AM before I got a cup of tea in me...

We only heat with a wood stove, and as of yet, I only made one fire the other day. It was 68 in the house, so not too cold, but I was ( still am ) sick, so I was chilly. I usually like the house to stay at about 70 all year. My husband likes to build a raging fire that heats the house up to like 80+ in 20 minutes... Ugh! So he has officially been kicked off of fire starting duty.

I love making fires though, makes everything feel cozy. We pay about $150-$200 for a cord of wood, and that lasts all winter - usually November till early March, depending how weird the weather gets.

No heat on here yet. I turn it on when it gets cold. This house we have a fireplace with a blower and newly purchased cord of almond wood. Hopefully we won't need the heater too much.
