The information here is really good, but the typo, grammatical and punctuation errors make it awkward to read and somewhat confusing - as in "Therefore opinions are too toxic."
A good proof read would make this an absolutely excellent article, as the information offered is detailed and important to know!

This was a fun read ... and got me thinking about some of the noises mine make ... my chicken name? I'll be listening a lot more closely for a while!
BTW - Some pics of your lovelies would make a nice addition to this article!

This looks great! The only real concern I see is the "crack" at roost level, which could cause a nasty draft in a bad spot if your winters are cold. How did you handle predator proofing for this? Chicken wire really only keeps chickens in, not predators out ... unless those two, big four-legged beauties are LGC ... Livestock Guardian Calves!
Very nice conversion!

The two calves and the three Labradors do a pretty good job of keeping the girls safe!!!

Excellent! This is well thought out, well planned and well executed ... both the set-up and the article. The tips on "What to Do Differently" are extremely helpful. That's the second rule of chicken keeping, second only to "Beware Chicken Math." Rule #2 is just as stated here ..."Go BIGGER than you think you'll need." Always!
VERY Nicely Done!

EDIT 12/19/19 to correct typos from "happy fingers!"

This is a great idea for a brooder. The clear sides don't just let people see in, they let the peeps see everything going on around them. They should be less likely to spook at people, later on. There's not much text to the article, itself, but the pictures are good enough that it really isn't missed.
Nice job!

This is an awesome start! Please keep up the good work. The three broken egg pictures are fascinating. It's neat to see what's really going on behind that shell!

These are all excellent tips - and the Flock Block recipe is top notch. A note on maintaining ventilation would move this article's rating to "Excellent." Most chicken-keepers already know about the ammonia and mold/mildew issues caused by inadequate ventilation, but not all realize the increased danger of frostbite.
Other than that note, this really is an excellent article ... and the pictures are great!

Thank you for reviewing my article. You brought up a great point in your comment. I will add to my article the necessity of ventilation and the dangers of frost bite.

This is a great little coop - and encourages those of us with odd spaces and no precision planning skills to go ahead and try it, anyway ... and I'd LOVE to hear the rabbit story!

MROO... the rabbit story was just another example of "chicken math" ... you start with one & then things get out of hand. The rabbits were more socially acceptable than chickens (at the time) so we ended up with one buck and 2 or 3 females. Before you know it, we were "multiplying" and there was no trouble finding homes for them. The kids LOVED having hand-tamed babies. So chickens were like our "gateway drug" which eventually led to rabbits, quail & homing pigeons. LOL ... But I'm more or less cured now. ;)

Thanks for stopping by!
This is my kinda DIY! Easy, inexpensive and not too far away to haul the bedding. Now if we could only just make it easier to haul away the compost ...

This is great! The Egg Song described in layman's terms (yuo, that's bad pun!) But the best part of the article is the audio-visual. VERY nicely done!

A great short list of common mistakes made when first starting out. This should be read BEFORE bringing home your birds.

Their safety, but our responsibility ... that about sums it up, doesn't it? You may want to delete the duplicate pictures ... although I really like the one with the turkey. Oh, if our birds could only talk, I'll bet that one would have a great caption!

This looks great! The conversion for the second coop is amazing! Can you add some details on how you went from woodshed to that great little coop and run? Some notes on how the roof turbo works for you on a small building would be helpful, too. I've been leery of adding one to my playhouse coop, for fear that there wasn't enough air movement to make it work.

Thanks, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out although most of the inside is temporary. Both of the coops are essentially laid out the same with a ramp leading up to a platform with the roosts and boxes. My old coop the platform is enclosed and is vented under the roof overhang. On the shed coop since there was no roof overhang and no good place to vent it I didn’t enclose the platform. I’m planning on adding external nest boxes also to add floor space for a bigger roost but it works for now. If there’s anything in particular you want pictures of for ideas I’d be happy to help.

This is a really nice little set-up and it presents well. If you could add some details about what you did and how, it would really help. Most people don't realize that, even with limited skills and time, a playhouse conversion can be cheaper and more solid (not to mention bigger and cooler!) than the flimsy prefab coops offered by most retailers.
